Story By: RYAN DELPH / CONLEY MOTORSPORTS – WHEELERSBURG, OH – The Conley Motorsports, Inc. (CMI) teams were in the pit area at Atomic Speedway in Alma, Ohio last Thursday evening, May 4 for the rain-postponed ‘Buckeye Spring 50.’
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series once again presided over the early-season special, which shelled out a $12,000 payday. Rod Conley ran seventh in his loaded heat race, scratched from his B-Main, and later utilized a track provisional to gain access into the 50-lap main event.
“Hot Rod” was then able to move up a few spots during the contest and was ultimately paid for a twenty-fourth place showing. His brother R.J. Conley was also in competition at the former K-C Raceway, but finished seventh in his heat race and fifth in his B-Main, which unfortunately forced him to watch the 50-lapper that was won by Hudson O’Neal.
Rod and his #71R team then trekked to the Mountaineer State over the weekend for a pair of $5,000 to win United Late Model Series (ULMS) ‘Topless 50’ battles. On Friday night at Ohio Valley Speedway in Washington, West Virginia, Rod finished eighth in the 50-lap feature event. A similar story was told on Saturday in the weekend finale at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, West Virginia, as the Wheelersburg, Ohio ace moved up three spots during the headliner to claim another eighth place performance.
Both Rod and R.J. Conley had plans of vying for the $7,500 first place prize on Saturday, May 13 in the ‘Mother’s Day Shootout’ at Atomic Speedway in Alma, Ohio. However, the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series contest has already been rained-out and rescheduled for Saturday, July 22. The Conley Motorsports, Inc. (CMI) teams will now enjoy the weekend off from racing action. Next up on the racing calendar will be Rod’s visit to Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, Ohio next Saturday night, May 20 for the $10,000 to win ‘Jim Dunn Memorial,’ which will be sanctioned by the XR Workin’ Man Series.
