Roger Hummer Takes 25-Lap Sportsman Feature Win At Accord Speedway Friday

Story By: BOND BRUNGARD / ACCORD SPEEDWAY – ACCORD NY – After two weeks of cancellations due to poor weather and track conditions, the Accord Speedway opened the 2023 season Friday, May 19 with a new division, Vintage Modifieds.

Harry Baldwin won the Joe Winne Memorial 15-lap Vintage Modified feature in the inaugural race at the Bullring. Mike Brown was second. Adam Douglas was third.”

“I started Vintage Modifieds last year, and I had a great time,” said Baldwin. “I knew Joe Winne, it’s honor to win a race in his memory. I am really enjoying (this). It’s a new found love me.”

Baldwin’s satisfying feat on this evening preceded cancellation the Arkel Motors 30-lap modified feature. Seconds into the start of the feature, the caution lights came on when the field jammed up in turns three and four wanting to jump at the green flag.

The field was untangled – and the race eventually cancelled after anotherr failed start. The field was lined up, and the drivers headed back to pits for the race to be run at a later date.

Roger Hummer won the 25-lap Mid Hudson Concrete Sportsman feature, following eight cautions, including one late that forced a green-white-checkered flag finish. Hunter Lapp was second, and Mike Doty was third.

Jayden Sleight won the Upstate Auto 15-lap Pure Stock feature, and George Van Ardsall was second. Shawn Williams was third.

Brock Miller won the WRWD Radio 107.3 Rookie Sportsman feature. Lenny Helmich III was second, and Mike Mikulski was third.

Sophia Spear won the All-Star Slingshot feature. Alex McCann was second, and Ashley Rogosich was third.

E.J. Hatch won the Junior Slingshot feature, his first ever victory at the Bullring in that division as Calleigh Stritmater was second. Brayden Marks was third.

Tim DeGrote won the Eager Beaver Fireball 4-cylinder feature. Brandon Conklin was second, and Jeff DeGrote was third.

Racing returns Friday, May 26 for a night of features, including Sprints, sponsored by Arkel Motors and NAPA.
