Story By: SHAWN BROUSE / WILLIAMS GROVE SPEEDWAY – MECHANICSBURG, PA – The Apple of the Eye of the USAC East 360 Sprint Car Series’ season is on tap at Williams Grove Speedway coming up this Friday, June 2 as the circuit stages the second running of the Bill Gallagher 5G To Win.
The Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint cars will be in action as well on H & N Landscaping School’s Out Night.
The wingless USAC East 360 cars will gather and compete in the Gallagher 5G race to honor late USAC East and URC car owner Bill Gallagher of King of Prussia.
Gallagher fielded his familiar No. 5G sprint car for decades with URC and later with USAC East and earned five URC series titles in his career with Curt Michael at the wheel.
The special, high-dollar USAC East 30-lap feature will pay 5G ($5,000) to win on June 2. The race will also pay $300 just to start the main event, boosting the total main event purse to nearly $16,000 for the 360 sprints!
There will be NO time trials.
Joey Gallagher of GEI Enterprises will present the USAC wingless sprint special in memory of Bill Gallagher.
Aside from USAC East drivers like series point leader Briggs Danner, Steve Drevicki, Alex Bright and Bruce Buckwalter Jr., it’s likely that at least a few outsiders will enter the action to claim the big top prize.
Bright outran Danner to claim the Gallagher race last season at Williams Grove and the Collegeville driver already has one win at the track this season.
The 410 sprints will join the USAC East cars on the special June 2 racing program.
Lance Dewease became the first repeat winner of the season in seven races on May 26 when he nabbed the All Stars Doug Esh Tribute Race worth $10,000. Other winners to date have been Zeb Wise, Brent Marks, Chase Dietz, Brad Sweet, Freddie Rahmer.
Gates will open at 5:30 pm with racing action slated for 7:30.
School’s Out Night fun and games will take place in the infield before and during the races with fireworks for the kids during intermission.
Representatives from the Milton Hershey School will be on hand for School’s Out Night, giving away T-shirts and Hershey chocolate bars to kids in attendance as they celebrate the beginning of Summer vacation.
Adult general admission for June 2 is $20 with students ages 13-20 admitted for $10.
Kids ages 12 and under are always free at Williams Grove Speedway.
