Story By: BRIDGEPORT MOTORSPORTS PARK – SWEDESBORO, NJ – The Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) completed their first program of the season on the High Banks of the Bridgeport Motorsports Park as Eddie Wagner drove to this first win of 2023.
Brian Papiez finally shed the misfortune that has hounded him during the early part of the 2023 season as he raced to the win in the Precision Hydraulic & Oil 602 Sportsman.
Tom Wills, Jr. made it four in a row in the Tipico Sportsbook Street Stocks while Joe Garey Jr. picked up the win in the Four Cylinder portion of the show. Eddie Barber III continue to dominate in the DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookie as he drove to his third win of the season. All of these winners celebrated on EZ Work Trucks Night at the Bridgeport Speedway.
Polesitter, Eddie Wagner took the lead at the start and never looked back in the Delaware Auto Exchange twenty-five lap feature event for the MASS 305 sprints. Wagner’s record-breaking run saw Wagner race away from all challengers – first Andy Best, then DJ Tanner, Tim Iulg, Kevin Nagy and finally Dave Grube. Nagy had already set a new one lap record for the 305 sprints during warm-ups only to have Wagner set a new one lap record during the main event.
Iulg had taken over the runner-spot from Tanner on lap seven and then Nagy came through two laps later. Dave Grube closed in on Nagy late in the race as the leaders raced through traffic. Grube was able to secure second in the final laps.
Wagner led the way to the checkered for the win over Grube, Nagy, Iulg and Jeff Paulson. CJ Faison finished sixth with defending MASS Champion, Buddy Schweibinz, Dave Brown, DJ Tanner and Dale Eggert completing the top ten at the checkered.
Kenny Laureno, Schweibinz and Shelby Kelly picked up win in the three EZ Work Truck heats.
After nothing but bad luck during the first three shows of the season, Brian Papiez was finally able to seal the deal with a win in the Precision Hydraulic & Oil 602 Sportsman.
Dave Jenkins led the first lap before Papiez raced by to lead lap two. In a race that was frequently interrupted by yellow flags, Papiez had the competition in double file formation on most restarts but each time, Papiez was able to pull away from his challengers.
Matt Peck backed up his win one week ago to finish second followed by Stephen Yankowski in third. Ethan Bill crossed the finish line in fourth with Travis Hill finishing fifth with the Cogdill No. 98. Jenkins, Thomas Prychka, Billy Chester, Brandon Shipley and Scott Hulmes completed the top ten in the running order.
Hoffman Discount Parts heat races were won by Papiez, Bryan Brobst, Howie Finch with Ashely Metz winning the consolation.
Eddie Barber III remains undefeated in the DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookies as he sailed to his third win of the season. Aaron Conover kept things interesting, running in second and keeping the leader close. Ed Owens finished third behind Barber and Conover.
Tom Wills, Jr. has been on a roll and he extended his winning streak to four in Saturday night’s Tipico Sportsbook Street Stock feature event. Nick Sandone led just one lap before Wills took the lead and drove off to the checkered. Once again, Jeramy Doerr finished second with Sandone, Drew Brocklebank and Terry Chaney completing the top five at the checkered.
Doerr picked up the win in the Melton Industries heat race for the Street Stocks.
Joe Garey, Jr. raced to the win in the Topico Sportsbook 4 Cylinder feature event. Lee Allen led the first half of the race before Garey raced into contention. Garey, Jr. took the win over Eric Degler who raced back to second after a trip to the pits. Tim Jones, Dan Stein, Jr. and Rich Page completed the top five at the finish.
The first of three Saturday Night Rumble events takes place next Saturday as the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modifieds compete in a forty lap feature event paying $5,000 to win. The Precision Hydraulic & Oil 602 Sportsman, the Tipico Sportsbook Street Stocks and DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookies join the Modifieds in this Saturday night event.
