Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / BRIAN BROWN RACING – GRAIN VALLEY, MO – Brian Brown and Brian Brown Racing may not have been victorious in their four-race Memorial Day weekend stretch, but they were close, highlighting their recent campaign with a top-five outcome at the Sprint Car Capital of the World, Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday, May 27.
Brown, ace of the Casey’s, FVP, Andy’s Frozen Custard, Impact Signs Awnings and Wraps, Mt. Dew Overdrive, HAWK Hunting, Ditzfeld Transfer, No. 21 sprint car, finished fourth in his recent Knoxville visit, racing ahead three positions after starting seventh on the evening grid. Brown’s preliminary effort included the second-fastest time during qualifying time trials, finishing second again during his respective heat race. “Blackjack,” who headquarters his race team in Grain Valley, Missouri, is certainly no stranger to success at Knoxville Raceway, earning a recent victory at the Iowa staple on Saturday, May 20; the 61st of Brown’s storied career.
Other Memorial Day weekend results include finishing 11th during ASCS National action at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas, on Friday, May 26, followed by 13th and 15th-place finishes during a two-day stay at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota, on Sunday and Monday, May 28-29.
Brown’s result at Lakeside is deceiving at best, as he was a winning threat not only once, but twice.
While attempting a slide job within the top-five, Brown accidentally made contact with another competitor and spun, ultimately forcing him to the rear. Fast forward and Brown is back in the top-five battling for position, only this time, a flat tire led him to the rear.
“A pretty solid weekend for our Casey’s/FVP team. I think we were fast enough to be winners Friday night at Lakeside, but if it was not for bad luck, we’d have no luck at all,” Brown stated. “The next few weeks are going to be busy. My guys work hard and are ready for anything.”
Brian Brown and Brian Brown Racing will continue their 2023 campaign with an exciting week through the Midwest, first joining the High Limit Sprint Car Series in a midweek visit to Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois, on Wednesday, May 31, followed by back-to-back nights at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Friday and Saturday, June 2-3. Brown will compete in 360 competition on Friday and 410 competition on Saturday.
