Story By: RYAN DELPH / CONLEY MOTORSPORTS – WHEELERSBURG, OH – Wheelersburg, Ohio standout R.J. Conley conquered the nearby Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio for the second straight week on Saturday evening, June 3.
R.J. swept the weekly Super Late Model program by setting Fast Time in qualifying, winning his heat race, and leading all 25 circuits in the main event. At the checkers, R.J. was celebrating a $2,000 triumph over a top five that included runner-up Robby Hensley, Audie Swartz, Kevin Wagner, and Josh Bocook!
His brother Rod Conley invaded the sprawling West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, West Virginia on June 2-3 for the annual ‘Historic 100,’ which was sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. On Friday night in the $10,000 to win weekend opener, Rod placed seventh in his stacked heat race prior to winding up eighteenth in the final finishing order of the 30-lap feature. In Saturday’s $50,000 to win grand finale, “Hot Rod” finished sixth in his heat race during preliminary action, but the 60-lap headliner was unfortunately wiped out due to inclement weather.
Rod’s #71R team is currently in the pit area at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio for the 29th annual running of the ‘Dirt Late Model Dream.’ A pair of split-field features will take place tonight at the “Big E” with two $12,000 winner checks on the line. A similar preliminary program will be held on Friday night at the 1/2-mile speedplant with two more $12,000 paydays awaiting the winners. The ‘Dirt Late Model Dream’ grand finale on Saturday then boasts a whopping $129,000 windfall.
R.J. and his #71C team are instead slated to travel to Atomic Speedway in Alma, Ohio this Saturday evening, June 10. A $3,000 to win main event is planned on Saturday at the south-central Ohio venue. R.J. will be looking for his third straight feature win in as many weekends.
