Virginia Motor Speedway Cancels Racing Activities For Saturday, June 24th

Story By: DAVE SEAY / VIRGINIA MOTOR SPEEDWAY – JAMAICA, VA – After much discussion and thought, speedway management has decided to cancel racing activities for Saturday, June 24, due to saturated grounds and the chance for more significant rains through the end of the week.

“We have had so much rain that the grass parking areas have standing water, and there is a very high chance for more rain through the end of the week,” said track owner Bill Sawyer. “We hate to cancel an event, but there is no way to get the facility dry enough for an event, and with the chance of more thunderstorms through Sunday, we had no other choice but to cancel so that we could notify our competitors and fans.”

The Speedway will return to racing on Saturday, July 8, to host week 7 of Dirt Series Championship weekly racing featuring the Victory Lap Late Model, Budweiser Modified, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, and Collision One Limited Stock divisions in action.

Before heading to the Speedway, come out to Bella’s Pizza in Tappahannock, VA, for the VMS Race Car and Classic Car show on Saturday, July 8, from 11 am – 2 pm. If you have a car or truck you want to show off, you are welcome to bring it and participate. There will be food specials and lots of great-looking cars to see.

Spectator gates for Saturday, July 8, will open at 5 pm, and on-track action beginning at 5:30 pm with hot laps.

Adult admission is $20, senior/military $15, students (13-17) $10, and children 12 and under free. Pit passes, regardless of age, are $35.

Fans should also put Saturday, July 15, on their calendar as Flat Track Motorcycles return to the Virginia ½ mile after a 16-year absence for the RVA Flat Track sanctioned Eddie Boomhower Memorial. It will be a night of bar-banging excitement.
