Story By: BEN SHELTON / TREY MILLS MOTORSPORTS – ST. AUGUSTINE, FL – Trey Mills raced to his first-career Super Late Model win on Friday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in a co-sanctioned race between the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series and Mississippi State Championship Late Model Series.
The inaugural win in the division for Trey came in the House Divided 40 aboard his Mills Concrete No. 14jr GW Performance / Integra Racing Shocks / Black Diamond Race Car / H&R Racing Engine Super Late Model.
“What a dream come true to get my first Super Late Model win, and best of all it came in a great race against a great field of racers. I really had to work for it and this car was great. I had never been to Whynot (Motorsports Park) before but I knew that bottom is where our car would be best, and everything worked out,” said the 15-year-old Mills.
Trey Mills continued his Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series (HTFSDS) title hunt on Friday evening as he entered his Mills Concrete No. 14JR into competition at Whynot (Miss.) Motorsports Park for the House Divided 40 doubleheader weekend.
For the $5,000-to-win opener, Mills clicked off the second-fastest lap in his qualifying group before holding on for a win in his heat race. Rolling off from the third-position in the 40-lap main event, Trey rolled the bottom lane to perfection and dueled with Payton Freeman before running away with the lead for good on lap 34.
Mills paced the field in the final six laps to score the $5,000 payday. He was followed across the line in his first-career Super Late Model win by Payton Freeman, Wil Herrington, Josh Putnam, and Neil Baggett.
With the field elevated to 36 Late Models on Saturday, Trey grabbed the final transfer spot in his heat race, which placed him on the seventh row of the second 40-lap feature of the week. Chasing a $10,000 weekend sweep, Mills charged through the field and picked off several competitors to score a Top-10 finish in seventh.
Trey currently sits fourth in the latest Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series standings.
This weekend Mills will continue Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series action with a visit to Senoia (Ga.) Raceway on Friday and Duck River Raceway Park (Wheel, Tenn.) on Saturday.
