Forecasted Heavy Rain & Strong Storms Push Wythe Raceway Event To Sunday, July 16th

Story By: RYAN DELPH / SOUTHERN NATIONALS SERIES – RURAL RETREAT, VA – With heavy rain and strong storms forecasted for this afternoon and at race time in the Wytheville, Virginia area, tonight’s second leg of the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco at Wythe Raceway has been postponed until Sunday, July 16.

The same exact program will take place tomorrow, but with earlier start times. The pit gates will be open all day today and tomorrow morning for teams to park, but the pits will be cleared starting tomorrow at 1:00pm. The grandstands will then open at 3:00pm before the drivers meeting takes place at 4:00pm. Hot laps are then scheduled to hit the Rural Retreat, Virginia highbanks starting at 4:30pm with racing action to quickly follow.

Along with the ground-pounding Super Late Models competing for a $10,053 top prize, the Aschenbach Super Street, Wythe Eye Modified, Randy’s Tire Shop Pro Mini, UCAR, & KCAR divisions will also tackle the picturesque 1/2-mile oval. A reminder to all Super Late Model drivers that we are starting ALL cars in the 53-lap feature tomorrow – as usual at Wythe – as long as you are within two seconds of the second quickest qualifier overall during time trials.

Adult general admission tickets for Sunday, July 16 will remain at the discounted rate of $28.00, while seniors and military will be admitted into the grandstands for $25.00. Youth ages 7-12 will be allowed into the stands for only $5.00, while kids ages 6 and under are always FREE. A pit pass will be $45.00.

The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series has been a fixture at Wythe Raceway since 2006 with Dennis Franklin (’06), Chris Madden (’07 & ’08), Vic Hill (’09), Mother Nature (’10), Austin Dillon (’11), Vic Hill (’12), Chris Madden (’13), Jonathan Davenport (’14), Billy Ogle, Jr. (’15), Dale McDowell (’16), Vic Hill (’17), Dale McDowell (’18), Brandon Overton (’19 & ’20), Mother Nature (’21), Dale McDowell (’22) recording victories. Jimmy Owens will bring the series point lead into Wythe tomorrow fresh off his opening round victory on Friday night at Beckley Motor Speedway in Mount Hope, West Virginia.

Body rules and the Droop Rule will be the same as those agreed on by both the World of Outlaws Late Model Series and the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series – among others. The entry fee will be $100.00 each night and transponders will be available to rent. Any driver not advancing into the feature field will receive $75.00 in tow money.
