“Yeah (the car) was good, Shane (McDowell) and Landon (Hayes) got everything working, so it makes my job easier — and it needs to be too, I’m out of breath,” McDowell said in Victory Lane. “I’ve actually had good luck here (Wythe Raceway), so you got high expectations when you come, but it doesn’t make it any easier. The competition level is unbelievable and I’m just proud to be part of it.”
Entering a single event over the weekend, Shane McDowell Racing and Dale McDowell traveled to Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Va.) on Sunday afternoon for the rescheduled Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals event.
With 23 Late Models on the grounds for the second round of the tour, McDowell clocked in second-fastest overall before picking up a heat race win.
Leading all 53 laps of the feature from the second-starting position, Dale whizzed ahead of fast qualifier Ross Bailes on the drop of the green flag and cruised to the $10,053 victory.
He recorded his sixth win of the season and 11th-career Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals triumph ahead of Carson Ferguson, Chris Ferguson, Ross Bailes, and Donald McIntosh.
McDowell resumes action on Tuesday with a $7,053 Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series program at I-75 Raceway (Sweetwater, Tenn.).
