Story By: FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY – KIRKWOOD, NY – Five Mile Point Speedway will honor the memory of Track Founders Irv and Anna Heath this Sunday with the 59th running of the Heath Memorial.
The Modified 40 lap feature will now pay a minimum of $5,000 to win and the Crate Sportsman 25 lapper will pay a minimum of $2,500 to win. Racing gets underway at 5:45 p.m.
A tradition of the Heath Memorial event is the Annual Former Racer’s Reunion. The gathering sees drivers from decades past returning to Five Mile Point Speedway to share their memories of the legendary racing action that has taken place for 73 consecutive years. The drivers will be hosted in the VIP Suites during the evening and introduced to the spectators during a special ceremony. The racing program is being sponsored by Shakelton NAPA (Hancock, NY) and Binghamton Truck & Tire Center (Conklin, NY).
On the track a lot will be on the line in all of the racing divisions. The Modifieds will compete in a special 40 lap event paying $3,500 to win. There is bonus lap money up for grabs and there will be a special “Dash for Cash” among the qualifying heat winners. Robert J. Green & Son has posted $500 on the “Dash for Cash”. Brian Malcolm, a two-time Modified Track Champion is the defending race winner of the Heath Memorial.
The Factory Stock teams will be gunning for a big event with the best drivers in the region expected to be in competition. The Signworks Custom Fleet Graphics “Beat Down at Sundown” 25 lap event will pay extra money and bonus lap money. DKM Auto in Conklin has also posted a $100 bonus to the Hard Luck and Hard Charger Driver in the event.
The Crate Sportsman will be competing in a $1,000 to win event on Sunday with racing action also slated for the 600 Modifieds, Futures Sportsman and Four Cylinder Expert divisions.
Racing begins at 5:45 p.m. Pit gates open at 2:45 p.m. with grandstand gates opening at 4:00 p.m. Practice for the teams is at 5:00 p.m. with the Modified teams hitting the track at 7 p.m. for their practice rounds. As always, children 8 years old and younger are admitted free in the grandstand area when accompanied by an adult.
