Woodhull Raceway Opens Month Of August With Modified King Of The Bull Ring

Story By: KENNY SHUPP / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – For as long as it has been staged, Billy VanPelt was the dominating force in the Dgien Trucking Modified King of the Bull Ring.

If BVP did not win the one-on-one single elimination event he was generally in the finals. However, that will all change in 2023 as the playing field is wide open with the retirement of VanPelt in early August 2022.

“These King of the Bull Ring Events are real crowd pleasers, stated Woodhull Raceway owners, Terry and Nike Brewer. We run them in our weekly divisions and not only is it a neat way for the drivers in each class to claim bragging rights as to which is the best in class, it also puts added cash into their pockets.”

With the departure of VanPelt the Insinger Performance Modified Division has led to a who’s who list of drivers finding their way into victory lane in feature action. In fact, the class saw a different Track Champion in the past decade when Joe Dgien etched his name into the books as a first-time title holder.

Both Joe Dgien and his cousin, Jake Dgien are top competitors in the Insinger Modifieds with both claiming feature wins in 2023, but when the money is on the line and who will done the cape and crown for winning the King of the Bull Ring all bets are off.

Dgien Trucking of Howard has been a long- time nightly supporter of the historic Steuben County oval. The Modified King of the Bull Ring is scheduled on the Dgien event as company owner, Andy Dgien puts extra money into the event and 2023 will be no exception.

Dgien Trucking offers long and short haul trucking primarily delivering aggregates from various sources in the Southern Tier of New York.

Recently, Dgien Trucking has also spread its wings and migrated into the field of site dirt work including excavator and dozer work for grubbing and clearing as well as underground utility work, site preparation for parking lots along with working as a subcontractor for building foundations.

Joining Dgien Trucking will be Maple City Collision, which is a subsidiary of Maple City Dodge, Seneca Road in North Hornell.

Maple City Collision can manage everything from scratches and dings to fender benders and major collision repairs.

Representatives of Maple City Collision and Dgien Trucking will enjoy the night of competition on Saturday, August 5, 2023 from the confines of the VIP Rooms high atop the massive front straight away grandstand seating area of the popular one-third mile clay oval.

In addition to the Insinger Performance Modified King of the Bull Ring the card will consist of a Regular Great 8 Show featuring not only the Mod Squad racing in their 25 lap feature, but also in action it will be the NAPA Crate Sportsman, the Doug Gross Construction RUSH Crate Late Models along with the Southern Tier Customs Street Stocks and the KMD Excavation Hobby Stocks.

Big Jim’s Wicked Tee’s sponsored Mini Stocks, Front Wheel Drives and Youth Warrior Divisions round out the program.

Gates open for the August 5 show to pit admission at 3:30 pm with grandstand seating to follow at 4:30 pm.

Fans entering the first hour into the main seating area receive $1.00 off the Adult General Admission ticket price.

Other discounts apply for Senior Citizens (+62) and youngsters (8-12) when accompanied by a paid adult. Kids five and under are admitted free of charge.

At the completion of the August 5, 2023 event the track preparation crew will immediately go to work in preparation for the Remembering Alice Event which will be staged just three days later Tuesday, August 8.

The Insinger Performance Modifieds, Doug Gross Construction RUSH Crate Late Model Touring Series along with the Empire Street Stock Tourin Group will make up the card for the night of action.
