Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / TEAM 73 – SHEBOYGAN, WI – Scotty Thiel and Team 73 came out swinging Saturday night at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin, and team ended up connecting, not only solidifying their second victory of the season – their second in two weekends – but scoring a $6,000 payday in the process. In addition, the win, occurring in the 23rd Annual Jerry Richert Memorial, was Thiel’s second in the state of Wisconsin, officially activating his 2023 win tally with a victory at Dodge County Fairgrounds on September 1.
Thiel, ace of the Gibbsville Cheese, Walker’s Game Ear, Professional Plating, Scott Thiel Builders, Stealth Cam, Muddy Outdoors, Complete Water Inc, GRP Motorsports, Hepfner Racing Products, Triple-X Chassis, Keizer Wheels, No. 73 sprint car, started from the pole in Cedar Lake’s Jerry Richert Memorial, forced to withstand numerous cautions while attempting to maintain control. The main event’s last caution would ultimately set up a green-white-checkered finish, but Thiel was focused and unaffected.
The “Big Wheel” opened his recent weekend with a sixth-place performance at Gondik Law Speedway in Superior, Wisconsin, on Friday, September 8.
“It’s been fun and pressure-free these last few weeks and I think that’s the secret recipe,” Thiel explained. “I’m proud of this team. There were a lot of uncertainties during the midpoint of the year, but we were able to get a deal together and it’s been working out really well. I owe our success to our partners. They stuck by me and now we’re able to reward them. We hope to keep this going.”
