Story By: ASHLEY MCCUBBIN / OSCAAR – LONDON, ONT – After getting the victory on the dirt a couple weeks ago, Tyler Hawn proved he can get it done on the tarmac as well, scoring the Knightworks Design OSCAAR Hot Rod feature win on Saturday at Delaware Speedway’s half-mile.
Steve Book won the first JRS Auctions heat ahead of Rick Spencer-Walt, Jerry Broom, Rob Bromley, Steve Ecker, David Rockwood, Ryan Cowan, Nick Clarke, and Bill Clarke.
Steve McCaw was victorious in the second qualifier in front of Tyler Hawn, Jordan Morris, Trevor Thompson, Cole Weber, Connor Ellis, Rob Starr, Dave Evison Sr., and Kyle Woods.
Starting on the second row, Tyler Hawn wasted no time putting the No. 2 Pontiac Beaumont out front ahead of the field as he took the lead on Lap 3. He then led the remaining 27 laps en route to visiting McColl Racing Enterprises feature victory lane.
Steve McCaw made his return behind the wheel for the first time since a medical emergency at the track in July for a runner-up finish. Rick Spencer-Walt rounded out the podium after challenging for the lead on a restart, only for contact with Hawn to shoot him up the track in turns three and four.
Jerry Broom and Rob Bromley completed the top-five, followed by Steve Book, Cole Weber, Trevor Thompson, Nick Clarke, and David Rockwood. Dave Evison Sr. was 11th ahead of Ryan Cowan and Kyle Woods. Connor Ellis made significant contact with the backstretch wall, relegating him to 14th in the running order ahead of Steve Ecker, Jordan Morris, Steve Adams, Bill Clarke, and Rob Starr.
The Knightworks Design OSCAAR Hot Rods are back in action at Flamboro Speedway for Frostoberfest on Saturday, September 30.
