Story By: ASHLEY MCCUBBIN / OSCAAR – PETERBOROUGH, ONT – For Tyler Hawn and his team, a leaf was the icing on the cake for a great season of Knightworks Design OSCAAR Hot Rod competition.
After winning the championship, the driver of the No. 2 Pontiac Beaumont ended the year with the Autumn Colours Classic victory.
With the original event being rained out, the decision was to reset the starting grid with time trials ahead of the 30-lap feature. Hawn was fast in the session, laying down a lap of 14.340 seconds to capture the pole.
The early laps saw a battle for the lead, but ultimately Tyler Hawn grabbed the advantage by the horns. Even though he got hung up in lap traffic for a bit, it was not enough to stop him from dominating. Ultimately, he would lead all 30 laps en route to scoring the victory.
Rick Spencer-Walt backed up his triumph in August at Peterborough with a runner-up this time around, as A.J. Emms completed the podium. Luke Gignac and Connor Ellis rounded out the top-five, followed by Ryan Cowan, Jeremy McLean, Matt Spry, John Lavalle, and Dan Price.
Sean Walker and Brandon Feeney completed the field.
The rain out also resulted in only the original qualifying heats and show up points counting towards the year-end championship standings. As a result, Tyler Hawn was crowned the 2023 series champion.
