Dillon McCowan Races To First-Career COMP Cans Super Dirt Series Super Late Model Win

Story By: BEN SHELTON / DILLON MCCOWAN RACING – URBANA, MO – Dillon McCowan piloted his Pomeroy Services / Empire Energy No. 8 Sonic / Heritage Tractor / BLC Transportation / McCowan Farms / Longhorn Chassis / Scott Bailey Racing Engine Super Late Model to his first-career COMP Cams Super Dirt Series Super Late Model win on Friday night.

The $5,000 triumph was collected at Louisiana’s Super Bee Speedway during the opening round of the Spooky 50. He ended the weekend with another strong run with a third-place finish in Saturday’s finale.

“You gotta make something happen, I was back there in sixth and it was (kinda) time for a hail Mary,” McCowan said in Victory Lane on Friday night. “We’ve been here once in our modified and I really enjoyed it, we definitely wanted to get down (to race) here and have another go at it. It was a super good track tonight, we traveled eight hours and it definitely makes it worth our while. (Sweeping the weekend) would mean more than a lot of people would ever dream of; winning one of these has always been our dream, my dream especially, this is our first sanctioned Late Model win and I’m pretty speechless, honestly.”

Dillon McCowan made the trip south to Super Bee Speedway (Chatham, La.) over the weekend for the final weekend of the 2023 COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) Super Late Model slate.

With 25 drivers entered into Friday’s Spooky 50 weekend opener at the Louisiana oval, Dillon qualified sixth fastest in time trials before racing to a second-place finish in his heat race.

The 40-lap, $5,000-to-win feature found McCowan lined up sixth on the starting grid. As the feature went green, he wasted little time working his way to the front of the pack. In fact, he found his way to the lead by the 12th circuit, and once out front he cruised to his first win with the series by a comfortable 1.131-second margin.

Kyle Beard, Bubba Mullins, Tanner Kellick, and Brandon Ball completed the Top-5 finishers.

On Saturday Dillon enjoyed another great outing. He qualified fourth fastest before winning his heat race to lock into the pole position for the 50-lap feature. McCowan led the first lap of the $10,000-to-win finale before ultimately settling into a third-place finish behind Tyler Stevens and Kyle Beard.

Dillon will put a wrap on the 2023 Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) season this Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.). The night is capped by a $10,000-to-win feature.

By entering the event he will officially clinch the 2023 Lucas Oil MLRA Rookie of the Year title and he enters the event third in the overall series’ standings.
