Brockville Ontario Speedway Loses Battle With Mother Nature On Opening Night

Story By: TIM BALTZ / BROCKVILLE ONTARIO SPEEDWAY – BROCKVILLE, ONT – A cloudy and overcast day turned to mid-afternoon of showers at the Brockville Ontario Speedway this past Saturday night on what was supposed to be the opener for the 2024 racing season.

Track crews managed to fight off the rain and got the surface worked in for the first heat race of the evening for the Novice Sportsman, with night sponsor Superior Cellular and Sound on hand. Paul Donnelly would come home the winner of the 6 lap contest.

Unfortunately, the skies opened up as the second heat took to the track which caused a lengthy delay, as crews worked to get the track surface race ready. Several quick showers halted the progression but stopped, allowing crews to do everything they could to get the night in.

Despite the track crew efforts and the efforts of all drivers in the pit area, officials deemed the track not fit for racing action and canceled the show.

Staff and management say all wrist bands and ticket stubs from this evening will be valid for next week’s show, the opening leg of the Ogilvie’s Auto and Fleet Triple Crown Series for the DIRTCar 358 Modified and DIRTCar Sportsman. You’re also encouraged to hang on to your 50/50 tickets as the jackpot from Saturday will be carried over to next week.

Along with the Oglive’s Triple Crown Series, the Novice Sportsman will be on the card along with the Surprenant Truck Shop Crate Sprints and the Street Stocks.

Gates open at 4pm with the first green flag of the night flying at our new start time of 6pm.
