Woodhull Raceway Takes It On The Chin As Mother Nature Continues To Claim Victory On The High Banks

Story By: KENNY SHUPP / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – 2024 has been a challenge for the ownership of the Woodhull Raceway as rain and cold temperatures has been the name of the game thus far.

“We just cannot catch a break,” stated owners, Terry and Niki Brewer. The weather during the week has been great, which has certainly helped with the drying up of our parking lots and pit area. We are in decent shape there after April when it rained about every day. But the past three weeks we have fought borderline weather each Saturday which is making it seemingly impossible to get a show into the books.”

With a Saturday, May 11, 2024, forecast showing late day rain and cold temperatures, the Brewer’s errored on the side of caution and pulled the plug early to save racers and fans unnecessary travel expenses.

“Radar showed heavy precipitation after 3:30 pm and that’s what time we open the pit gates, so we threw in the towel early so everyone could make other plans.”

After the previous weeks partially run program where just a pair of features were officially sealed into the record books before rain hit the track, there are still no less than five features that will need to be made up over time including the Empire Crushing LLC RUSH Crate Late Model’s, Southern Tier Customs Street Stocks, Sawyer’s Camper and RV Service and Repair Hobby Stocks as well as the Hometown Excavation Crate Sportsman and the Wicked Tee’s Quad C.

Prior to the May 4 washout, Joe Dgien was declared the winner of the shortened 30 lap Insinger Performance Modified feature and Kayleigh Morseman was victorious in the Wicked Tee’s Warrior event.

Up next at Woodhull it will be Salute to Law Enforcement, Firemen and EMS Personnel Night set for Saturday, May 18, 2024, with The Canisteo Police onboard as the nightly event sponsor.

In addition to full card Super 7 Show the NY 600 Sprints will also be at the track making their lone appearance for the season as the Wonderful Winged Things will hustle high banks at breakneck speeds.

Pit gates open at 3:30 pm with the main grandstand to follow at 4:30 pm.
