Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / TONY STEWART RACING – BROWNSBURG, IN – In all, a productive weekend in the Buckeye State for Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, not only earning back-to-back top-tens with the Greatest Show On Dirt, but securing a podium run in the process, accomplishing said feat at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, on Saturday, May 18.
Schatz, ace of the Carquest, Advance Auto Parts, Ford Performance, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Elliott’s Custom Trailers & Carts, Mobil 1, Hoosier, VP Racing Fuels, Tub ‘O Towels, No. 15 sprint car, finished second in his podium score, commencing the evening’s 30-lapper from the inside of row three.
A mid race battle with Gio Scelzi would end in Schatz’ favor, claiming third officially at the halfway mark before setting aim on race runner-up, Carson Macedo. A caution on lap 23 would serve as the momentum check Schatz needed, utilizing the ensuing restart to snag second from the California native.
The podium result was Schatz’ eighth of the 2024 season, still in contention for an 11th World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship. The Fargo, North Dakota, native trails David Gravel, the Series point leader, by 54 markers.
“We were good at the end, decent,” Schatz said of Sharon. “The guys are doing a great job. Everybody at Ford is working their tails off. I’ve got some control, and that’s what we’ve been looking for. The performance shows. I didn’t know that we were going to be able to get there on an open racetrack. But that’s the way racing is anymore. We needed traffic, and we didn’t really have it there at the end. I feel like we were decent, and we’ll just keep building on it.”
Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing opened their weekend in Ohio with a seventh-place score at Attica Raceway Park on Friday, May 17 – Schatz started 11th.
Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing and Donny Schatz will continue their 2024 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series campaign with another action-packed weekend in the Buckeye State, visiting Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, on Friday and Saturday, May 24-25, followed by a visit to Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio, on Monday, May 27.
