Story By: JIM CLARKE / ONTARIO LEGEND CAR SERIES – PETERBOROUGH, ONT – Close to 20 teams with the Trailers Plus Ontario Legend Car Series signed-in Saturday, May 18th to kick-off the Peterborough Speedway portion of the group’s 2024 schedule, with an event presented by KOD Disposal and Snow Services.
Jade Franklin and Cole McFadden brought the pack to the stripe for their 25-lap feature event. The front row duo was joined by Mitch Wright as the trio broke away from the pack. A red flag for simultaneous issues in each end of the track sidelined some of the top runners including Franklin and Adam Cuthbertson. Although their equipment sustained heavy damage in the lap 8 incidents, all drivers were checked and cleared by emergency staff.
Cole McFadden took the lead on the restart, with Jordan Latimer and Wright looking to mount a charge to the front of the field. A pair of yellow flags – with around 10 laps remaining bunched the field – as Wright moved into lead and took the win. Dawson Drimmie, Wes Cuthbertson, Cole McFadden, who was involved in one of the late race yellows and Mark Griffin completed the top 5 at the checkered flag. Matt Boyes, Joe Sherman, Robbie Sikes, Paul Pierik, Andrew McFadden, Jordan Latimer, Caleb Drimmie, Keaton Pipe, Jade Franklin, Adam Cuthbertson, Anthony Einarson and Glenn Morris rounded-out the finishing order.
Mitch Wright had a pair of Ontario Legend Car Series heat race wins, with the others going to Cole McFadden and Jade Franklin. The group’s 2024 schedule continues Saturday, May 25th with the 2nd of 3 straight events at Peterborough Speedway.
