Story By: TIM BALTZ / DAWDY RACING – BROCKVILLE, ONT – The 2024 racing season kicked Kim and Dan Dawdy with their potent number 88Z DIRTCar Sportsman and their hired gun Bobby Herrington this past Victoria Day weekend.
The team ran solid in the Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series opener, where they look to defend their series and track title at Brockville Saturday night. Sunday it was another great performance at Cornwall as well.
On Saturday at the Brockville Ontario Speedway, fast track saw Bobby jump out in front of his 9 lap heat race, in honor of the late Bob McCreadie. Herrington was not pressured at all as he went on to score his first heat win of the season, giving him a spot upfront on the starting grid on the 40 lap feature go.
At the drop of the green Bobby searched for the right spot on the race track and settled into the number 4 position behind race leader Jessica Power, Shane Pecore and Gavin Eisele. As the laps clicked off the car started to get faster as Herrington reclaimed the number two position just past the halfway point and had some work to do to catch Pecore for the lead.
Despite a couple of late race restarts, Bobby and the team settled for second, a great way to kick off the chase for a fourth straight track title and another Ogilvie’s Series championship.
The action shifted to the Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday night for their season opener, which saw a total of 33 cars try to qualify for the 25 lap contest.
Bobby started the night off finishing in the runner up spot to Shane Pecore in heat race number 3, putting him 7th on the grid for start of the race. Herrington ran solid throughout the entire event and would end up with another top 5 effort.
Bobby would finish 5th behind Shane Pecore, Cedric Gauvreau, Dylan Kirkland and race winner Donovan Lussier.
Next week Bobby and the 88Z team will be back at The BOS looking for victory lane on Saturday night. Sunday the team will be back in Cornwall, looking to improve on a solid finish from this past week.
Car owners Kim and Dan Dawdy thank everyone for their support from the returning sponsors and new partners such as DIG Race Shocks and Dirt Outlaw Apparel. They would also like to thank the race fans and look forward to seeing everyone this coming weekend.
