Brandon Overton Snares $50,000 Mountain Moonshine Classic Title

Story By: BEN SHELTON / WELLS MOTORSPORTS – EVANS, GA – Brandon Overton led flag-to-flag in Saturday night’s Mountain Moonshine Classic finale at Smoky Mountain Speedway to collect the $50,000 top prize with his Wells & Sons Motorsports No. 76 Convenient Lube / Muscle Factory/ Wells Motorsports Infinity Race Car / Clements Racing Engines – powered Super Late Model.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) victory pushed his 2024-win total to seven.

“We made the right decisions,” Overton said in Victory Lane. “I think the first lap, me and Ryan (Gustin), I think we both knew how important it was to get out to clean air. We kind of rubbed down there, but that’s awesome. The only two Infinity cars here run 1-2 most of the race. So, like I said, hats off to Eric and everybody back at the shop.”

On a ‘special night,’ Overton also thanked his crew for helping him keep his chin up.

“My boys, you know, they’ve been, they’ve been busting their ass, man,” Overton said. “I need them to keep me upbeat. You know what I mean? I’m pretty hard on myself and I get down and they’ve got a good attitude and (the success is credited) more to them than it is to me. They give their life to this stuff.”

Brandon Overton opened a tripleheader weekend on Friday with a visit to Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tenn.) for the two-day Mountain Moonshine Classic.

Against a field of 42 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries, Overton followed up a runner-up heat race showing with a seventh-place finish in Friday’s 40-lap preliminary feature.

Back at the Tennessee oval on Saturday, Brandon claimed the All Star Performance Fast Time honors with a 14.459-second lap before picking up a flag-to-flag heat race win. Despite an early challenge from fellow front-row starter Ryan Gustin in the feature, Overton cruised to a dominant $50,000 victory in Saturday’s Mountain Moonshine Classic finale.

He took the checkers ahead of Ricky Thornton Jr., Gustin, Jonathan Davenport, and Brandon Sheppard.

The six-figure payday marked his seventh win of the season and 16th career LOLMDS triumph.

Overton’s weekend concluded with an eighth-place finish in Sunday’s inaugural Sidney Langston Memorial at Ultimate Motorsports Park (Friendship, N.C.) aboard his Wells Motorsports No. 76 Infinity Chassis Super Late Model.

Overton now turns his attention back to the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series and as the series’ point leader will resume action this weekend with a pair of South Carolina events. Action opens on Friday at Lancaster Motor Speedway with a $12,000-to-win event before rolling into Cherokee Speedway on Saturday for a $20,000-to-win program.

Brandon holds a 68-point advantage atop the latest series’ standings.
