Evergreen Raceway Cancels June 23rd Races Due To Extreme Heat Conditions Forecast

Story By: DINO OBERTO / EVERGREEN RACEWAY – BUTLER TOWNSHIP, PA – As the Northeast remains in the grip of a torrid heat wave and continuous high heat index warnings from many weather service agencies, Evergreen Raceway management felt it is in everyone’s best interest to cancel the planned Sunday afternoon, June 23 races.

“We’ve been paying close attention to the weather all week and according to whichever weather station you follow, there is no letting up for at least the next few days. The warnings by those groups are highly encouraging people to take precautions and with us planning to race Sunday afternoon, we do not want to put anyone at risk and therefore have made the decision to call off the event,” said Evergreen Raceway owner/promoter Jason Makarewicz.

“We are very grateful to our loyal and dedicated fans and race teams for the support they continue to give us and it’s unfortunate that we will not be racing but the safety of all them as well as our staff, is number one.”

The Tour Type Modifieds, Street Stocks, Four Cylinders, Rotten-and-Forgotten along with the JuiceBox Division where slated to compete.

“Since we have yet to have a Tour Type Modified race we are going to move the race to next Sunday in place of the 602 Crate Sportsman Modifieds,” said Makarewicz.

Sunday, June 30 at 2:00 pm will now feature the Tour Type Modifieds in a 50-lap/$2000-to-win main event along with the Street Stocks, Four Cylinders, Rotten-and-Forgotten along with the East Coast TQ Midgets and the JuiceBox Division.

A reminder that any Novice class racers are allowed to run with the Four Cylinders if they so choose for this week.

Pit gates will open at 10:30 am. Pit admission is $40 per person. Warm-ups will begin at 12:30 pm with heats starting at 2:00 pm.

The main grandstands open at noon. Adult admission is $15, kids 12 and under are free.
