Woodhull Racing Pulls The Plug On Saturday Night’s Jim Williams Memorial

Story By: KENNY SHUPP / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – Mother Nature dictates everything when it comes to summer time outdoor activities and this Saturday at the Woodhull Raceway is no exception and with an outlook of nothing but gloom and doom coupled with the fact that historically it is Woodhull’s biggest fan attended event of the year, Woodhull Raceway owner, Nikki Brewer really had no choice but to throw in the towel early on this one.

Generally speaking, the track usually tries to wait as long as possible before pulling the plug on their race action.

However, The Jim Williams Memorial I Pyro Fireworks Show and Woodhull VFD Chicken BBQ brings in thousands of added fans from the normal race night prompting Track owner, Nikki Brewer to look way ahead on this one.

A refrigerated trailer of added food and beverages is required, extra staffing, garbage refuse containers, and the list goes on. It is a well-orchestrated event which takes months to plan, including a trio of marketing partners that attach their names to the Jim Williams Memorial.

Then you have an outside Pyrotechnic Company that spends almost a full day setting up plus the Woodhull Volunteer Fire Department which needs a heads up to prepare for the chicken BBQ.

In short, this event requires days/weeks of advanced planning and if weather becomes an issue the call must be made way in advance, not at 3 pm on race day.

Fortunately, Woodhull is able to reschedule the Jim Williams Memorial on Saturday, July 13, 2024 with basically everything getting rolled over from the originally scheduled date of June 29 and this is not the first time this has happened in the fifty-nine year history of the historic Steuben County Facility as previous promoters have delt with this same scenario in years past.

The Powder Puff and Street Stock King of the Ring which were originally scheduled for July 13 will be made up at a later date.

B H Log Hauling and TP’s Concrete will return on July 13 to sponsor the night of events.

Please be advised that Woodhull will shutter on Saturday, July 6, 2024, as per the original 2024 Schedule of Events to allow all their loyal fans, racers and employees time to spend with their families around the July 4 Holiday.
