NASCAR TRACKS – POCONO RACEWAY – NASCAR 101

Pocono Raceway, situated in Long Pond, Pennsylvania, and often called the “Tricky Triangle,” is unique due to its distinctive triangular shape, featuring three turns, each with different banking angles modeled by three other tracks: Turn 1 (14 degrees) from Trenton Speedway, Turn 2 (eight degrees) from Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Turn 3 (six degrees) from the Milwaukee Mile. The varying turn designs present a significant challenge for teams, requiring adaptable driving skills and primed setups. In preparation for Sunday’s 400-mile race, drivers took to the track Saturday afternoon for practice and qualifying to set the starting lineup.

  • Ryan Blaney, driver, No. 12 Wabash Ford Mustang – 8th
  • Joey Logano, driver, No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Mustang – 10th
  • Austin Cindric, driver, No. 2 Menards/Richmond Ford Mustang – 20th

HEAR FROM BLANEY: “Solid day for our 12 group. We have a lot of speed in our Wabash Ford Mustang and got the balance in a good spot by the end of the day. Looking forward to seeing what we have for tomorrow.”

POCONO STATS: Team Penske is in search of its 10th NASCAR Cup Series win at Pocono Raceway. The organization has recorded 59 top-10 and 34 top-five finishes in 136 starts. Both Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney have one Cup Series victory each at the triangular-shaped track, with Logano’s win coming in 2012 and Blaney’s triumph in 2017, which marked his first in NASCAR’s premier division. Austin Cindric found victory lane at Pocono in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2021.

A CAREER MILESTONE: When the green flag drops on Sunday, it will mark a significant career milestone for Team Penske driver Austin Cindric, who will be making his 100th start in the Cup Series. Among his notable accomplishments is a DAYTONA 500 victory, achieved in his rookie season in 2022.

TUNE IN ON SUNDAY: Coverage of Sunday’s 400-mile race at the “Tricky Triangle” begins at 2:30 p.m. ET on USA, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
