Story By: BEN SHELTON / SHANE MCDOWELL RACING – MOORESBURG, TN – Dale McDowell’s 2024 success at Volunteer Speedway continued on Sunday evening with a $7,553 Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series triumph aboard his Shane McDowell Racing / E-Z-GO No. 17m Cometic Gaskets / Klotz Synthetic Lubricants / Connected Strategy Advisors / Team Zero Race Cars / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.
McDowell’s third win of the year at the high-banked oval and fourth overall triumph of the season came one night after a flat tire while leading snared his chances for victory at Wythe Raceway.
“Last night at Wythe (Raceway) we had one (a win) slip from our grip when I had a flat tire while leading, but tonight I guess you could say we got redemption. I told them a while ago these are getting more special and more special because as I’m getting older, I don’t know when it’s gonna be the last one,” the 58-year-old McDowell said after topping Sunday night’s event. “I’m enjoying every one of them, and I’m so grateful for everyone who supports this team and makes it all possible.”
Joining Ray Cook’s Schaeffer’s Oil Southern National Series on Saturday afternoon, Dale McDowell checked into Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Va.) for the first of two nights of action with the series.
Laying down the quickest lap out of 16 Late Models, McDowell led flag-to-flag in his heat race and earned the pole for the $10,053-to-win event. Dale took the top spot from the drop of the green flag and paced the field until he suffered a flat tire on lap 18. Storming back from the rear of the field, McDowell ended up fourth at the checkered flag in the 53-lap feature.
At Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) on Sunday, Dale locked into the A-Main through qualifying and started on the front-row. Dominating the 40-lap feature, McDowell outran Chris Madden to the checkered flag and picked up the $7,553 paycheck.
The win was his fourth of the 2024 campaign and his 14th-career Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series triumph.
Dale will pilot the Shane McDowell Racing entry into action once again on Tuesday night at I-75 Raceway (Sweetwater, Tenn.) for another $7,553-to-win program.
