Stacy Jackson Wins Second Modified Feature Of ’24 At Woodhull Raceway

Story By: KENNY SHUPP / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – Stacy Jackson of Woodhull, NY walked away victorious in the Insinger Performance Modified twenty-five lap feature on Saturday, July 20, 2024.

Under a full moon lit sky, yellow fever was the name of the game as the Mod Squad suffered through no less than four caution flag slow downs plus a red flag stoppage.

However, Jackson was up to the task as he cruised to his second win of the season piloting his Brad and Kim Herrington owned machine leading the final lap after most of the event was dominated by Jeff Daugherty who was making a rare Woodhull appearance.

For second gen pilot Daugherty of Elmira, The Woodhull Raceway is the site of his first ever feature win several seasons ago as he beat out his father, Chris to win a Crate Sportsman event.

After leading the first twenty-four laps, a late race caution with just one lap to go was his undoing as the car failed to re-fire, ending a brilliant run thus handing the top spot over to Jackson who is no stranger to victory lane at his home track.

For Jackson, the win backed up an earlier feature victory on May 18, 2024, and he did not back into the victory by any means having come from inside row six to claim the win having to pass several good cars in route to the front.

Finishing behind Jackson was Jake Dgien driving as a team mate to the race winner making it a Herrington Motorsports one/two sweep.

Rounding out the podium was Carter Crooker of Savona who began the event lined up outside row seven as the fourth- generation teenager continues to impress as a hired gun for legendary Addison car owner, Herbie Wright.

Opening night winner, Josh Keesey and current high point man, Brady Fultz from Dundee who also drives weekly at Woodhull for Wright completed the top five.

Tim Guild of Rathbone, NY had to hold off a determined Kenny Peoples Jr of Addison to claim his first Hometown Excavation Crate Sportsman feature event of the season.

Kyle Leach would lead the first eight circuits before giving way to Guild who would assume control on lap nine and from there go on to the victory. Five caution flags would slow the pace and keep the field bunched up, but Guild was up to the challenge on every re-start as he held off Peoples by less than half a second with Isabel Barron coming home third.

Connor Brown along with Street Stock graduate now in a Sportsman, Brandon Morseman would round the top five finishers.

Brett Marlatt made it win five on the season and third in a row as he bettered the eight car Empire Crushing RUSH Crate Late Model twenty-lap A-Main.

McKean County and Genesee Speedway promoter, Kurt Stebbins had a rare night off and was able to cinch the belts as the veteran Wellsville competitor wound up second at the finish chased across the line by Troupsburg, NY speedster, Steve LeBarron.

Fourth and fifth went to a couple more veteran pilots in Corning’s Brian Knowles along with Joe Layfield of Boliver.

In Southern Tier Customs Street Stock twenty-lap feature action, Mike Spencer of Hornell picked up his second feature win of the 2024 campaign as he wrestled the top spot away from Clayton Mclean on lap eight and from there cruised to the “W”.

Mclean of Elkland, Pa has been a world beater at Woodhull in 2024, however Spencer was too much to manage on this night as the top two were joined on the podium by third gen Cameron Mills pilot, Bradly Morseman.

Teddy Morseman Jr. (father of Bradly) and Mick Seeley of Lawrenceville, Pa completed the top five in the eight -car feature.

Brandon Conklin was able to successfully back up last week’s feature win after a spirited battle with Joe Birdsall which saw the pair swap the lead back and forth no less than three times before Conklin was able to take control for the final time on lap fourteen and from there hold off Birdsall by less than three tenths of a second for the victory.

Scott Brown of Tioga, Pa. began the event in third and that is where he would finish as he was chased across the line by Dale Houghtaling and veteran Addison, NY competitor, Mike Carapella who completed the top five.

Danielle Morseman took advantage of race leader Wes Houghtaling’s lap twelve misfortune as she cruised to win three on the 2024 campaign.

Morseman’s boyfriend, Travis Southard put on another solid performance coming from the last starting position to finish second with Chris Hand advancing one spot from his opening grid fourth starting position to claim third.

Jacob Stone and Wes Houghtaling would go on to round out the top five.

In the Wicked Tee’s Warrior ten lap feature, Markus Kerr was able to find his way back into victory lane after a tough outing the week prior.

For Kerr it was win six on the season as he was able to hold off Courtney Thomas who was looking for her first win of 2024.

Third place went to Kayleigh Morseman who held off last week’s winner Izzabella Morseman as the pair would go on to claim third and fourth with Kolson Decamp and Kaiden Thomas completing the six-car field.

Finally, the Classics on Dirt Vintage Cars made their annual trek to the High Banked one-third of a mile clay oval and thrilled the fans with the sights and sounds of a time gone by.

Tom Fletcher, piloting a Magic Shoes Mike Mclaughlin throwback Crazy 8 machine was the overall feature winner, but to the delight of the crowd local competitors Bob Williams and his grandson, Brent were also class winners.

Bob Williams, who recently turned ninety years old, still has the drive to compete as he is the son of Woodhull’s original owner, designer and promoter, Old George Williams who built the track in 1965.

Brent Williams is the son of former Modified standout, Roger Williams and after having a short stint in Hobby Stock competition, has now found his way into the Vintage Car ranks.

Congratulations to all competitors.

Up next at Woodhull on Saturday, July 27, 2024, the Empire Super Sprints will join a Regular Super 7 Show.

It will be the lone appearance for the ESS 360 Sprints at Woodhull in 2024 with the night presented by McCourt’s Collision of Canisteo along with Louie’s Gun Shop in Bath.
