Racing’s under the lights this Friday at Evergreen Raceway

Story By: DINO OBERTO / EVERGREEN RACEWAY – BUTLER TOWNSHIP, PA – Evergreen Raceway will be back in action this coming Friday evening, July 26, racing under the lights, that will include the DW Machine & Fabricating Late Models, Harry’s U-Pull-It Street Stocks, Himmer Graphics Four Cylinders and Bangers plus the JuiceBox Division.

Racing will start at 7:00 pm.

In advance of the night’s activities the raceway will also hold an open practice session from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Any race cars are permitted to take in the additional practice time which is $25 per car.

The Late Models last raced on June 16 with reigning champion Mike Sweeney collecting his 19th win at Evergreen and 77th overall.

There was a great field of cars on hand for that show and likely the same can be expected come this Friday, with all of them setting their sights on Sweeney.

The Street Stocks have competed in five races thus far and winning two in a row is current point leader and two-time and defending champion Mike Pollack. Gordon Buchman Jr., though, who collected his career first win on Opening Day, remains closely behind in the point’s battle while several others are showing they are also ready to park in Fairway Chevrolet Victory Lane.

It should come as no surprise that the Four Cylinder class is very tightly bunched at the top of the standings when considering how equally matched this division is.

Currently Johnny Bennett leads but has BJ Wambold, Maggie Wambold and Rebecca Barbush hot on his heels. And, that’s just the top four as the rest of the top 10 are all showing the ability to win on and given day.

The Bangers, a low-cost FWD car very similar to an Enduro, will be making its debut also.

Getting in track time as well will be the JuiceBox Division.

Adult grandstand admission is $12, kids 12 and under are free. Front gates open at 5:00 pm. Pits are $40 per person. Warm-ups will begin at 5:30 and with racing starting at 7:00 pm.
