Crate 602 Modifieds Headline Action Sunday At Evergreen Raceway

Story By: DINO OBERTO / EVERGREEN RACEWAY – BUTLER TOWNSHIP, PA – The 602 Crate Modifieds will headline the action this coming Sunday afternoon, August 4, at Evergreen Raceway.

Racing begins at 2:00 pm.

Also in the line-up are the Harry’s U-Pull-It Street Stocks, Himmer Graphics Four Cylinders, McNulty Funeral Home Novices plus the touring INEX Legends and Bandolero’s. And the JuiceBox Division will be on hand too.

After picking up his second 602 Crate Modified win of the season on July 12, Brian Rygielski Jr., comes into Sunday’s event back atop the division standings but he is shadowed closed by Micah Adams, Steve Shultz and Jayden Harman as the top four are only separated by nine points and fifth place Kenzie Adams is also within striking distance.

And, while that group may hold down the top spots, this entire class has an equal amount of excellent drivers and cars who can easily come out on top following Sunday’s feature.

Mike Pollack has reeled off three straight Street Stock wins and that coupled with a pair of runner-ups and a fourth has him sitting nicely as the point leader.

Gordon Buchman Jr., however, continues to show that he can keep pace with Pollack, sitting closely behind in second in the standings. And with the likes of Tommy Flanagan, Amber Knecht and Mark Spencer, there is no question that Pollack must keep on his toes with such a force so close behind him.

There is quite the excitement brewing with the Four Cylinders as for the first time ever a father and daughter are one-two in the standings and very close too as BJ Wambold is a mere four points ahead of Maggie Wambold.

The always fast Johnny Bennett is lurking near them in third. Meanwhile Ralph Borger Jr., has put in some very steady runs this season and in turn it has put him up to fourth in the points, his highest ranking to date he has had with the Four Cylinders.

This class is also coming off a season high 20 car field and given the parity of the majority of them, those aforementioned will have their work cut out for them on Sunday if they are indeed looking to maintain their spots or better them.

Despite not winning a feature yet, Kaitlyn Makarewicz comes into Sunday’s racing as the new point leader of the Novice division. She is in some close company too as Savannah Romig and Conner Shotwell – how have both won this season – are only three and four points behind respectively while Sarabeth Mesko and Abby McNulty, who like Makarewicz are looking to score their first wins of the season and not to mention most recent winner Riley Titus, should make for some very thrilling action this week.

The INEX Legends and Bandolero’s compliment a well-rounded show. Whenever the Legends make a visit to the paved 1/3-mile oval they bring with them a respectable car count that reflects nicely in how well they race. Likewise the Bandolero’s are a talented group of up and coming racers who are able to get big track experience at Evergreen.

Pit gates will open at 10:30 am. Pit admission is $40 per person. Warm-ups will begin at 12:30 pm with heats starting at 2:00 pm.

The main grandstands open at noon. Adult admission is $12, kids 12 and under are free.
