Dale McDowell Doubles Down in Southern Nationals Victory Lane

Story By: BEN SHELTON / SHANE MCDOWELL RACING – MOORESBURG, TN – Dale McDowell doubled down in Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series Victory Lane last weekend with his Shane McDowell Racing / E-Z-GO No. 17m Cometic Gaskets / Klotz Synthetic Lubricants / Connected Strategy Advisors / Team Zero Race Cars / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

McDowell claimed the $10,053 top prize on Friday night at North Georgia Speedway before racing to the $20,053 winner’s check on Saturday at Tazewell Speedway as his win total on the year grew to seven.

Shane McDowell Racing and Dale McDowell returned to the road with the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals on Friday evening with a trip to North Georgia Speedway (Chatsworth, Ga.), seeking their third straight victory with the miniseries.

Outrunning fast qualifier and pole-starting Donald McIntosh in the 53-lap feature, McDowell soared into the lead on the opening lap and never looked back, capturing his sixth win of the season and the $10,053 top prize.

For the Ray Varner Ford 75 on Saturday at Tazewell (TN) Speedway, Dale’s third-place heat race finish positioned him on the fourth row for the main event. Wasting no time working his way forward, McDowell charged into second by lap 24 and overtook Mike Benedum for the lead on lap 52. He paced the remainder of the 75-lap affair to secure his second win in as many nights and the $20,053 winner’s payday.

“Normally when you start (further) back here, you’re in trouble. And there’s an awful lot of good talent here, and just good racers,” McDowell said in Victory Lane on Saturday night. “You look up through there and, you know, when I was starting seventh, I was really like, ‘Man, I’m not gonna be able to drive up through there.’ So it just worked out where we could maneuver around, and we got the win.

We had a great car all weekend and its awesome to get two wins to show for our efforts. A big thank you to Shane McDowell Racing, and everyone, who supports us as we go up-and-down the road.”

The win marked the 17th of his career with the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals.

Dale McDowell and Shane McDowell Racing will continue their 2024 campaign this Friday and Saturday with a trip to Duck River Raceway Park (Wheel, Tenn.) for a doubleheader with the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series. Friday’s program posts a $5,000 top prize, while Saturday’s finale has $20,000 up for grabs.
