NASCAR TRACKS – MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY – NASCAR 101

As the NASCAR Cup Series approaches the final stretch of the regular season with only three races remaining, the spotlight shifts to Michigan International Speedway, a track where Team Penske is on the hunt for its 11th victory. A Team Penske triumph in Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 would not only add to the team’s illustrious history books, but it would also secure Ford its streak-extending 10th consecutive win at the two-mile track located near the company’s headquarters.

Saturday’s on-track activities were disrupted by inclement weather, leading to a shortened practice and the cancelation of qualifying. As a result, the starting lineup was set according to the NASCAR Rulebook.

  • Ryan Blaney, driver, No. 12 Menards/Dutch Boy Ford Mustang – 8th
  • Joey Logano, driver, No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Mustang – 14th
  • Austin Cindric, driver, No. 2 Discount Tire Ford Mustang – 23rd

HEAR FROM BLANEY: “I thought we unloaded with pretty solid pace in our Menards/Dutch Boy Ford. Just unfortunate we weren’t able to get a run in longer than a few laps with the rain but looking forward to seeing what we have tomorrow.”

MICHIGAN BY THE NUMBERS: Team Penske has scored 10 premier series victories at the Brooklyn, Michigan, circuit with the most recent trophy being secured in 2021 by Ryan Blaney. Heading into Sunday’s race, Joey Logano and Kyle Larson lead all active Cup Series drivers in wins at the two-mile facility with three wins each. All of Logano’s wins at Michigan have come after starting from the pole. Additionally, the driver of the No. 22 leads all active drivers in laps led with 590. Blaney has finished inside the top 10 in his last three starts at Michigan and will look to extend that streak Sunday. Teammate Austin Cindric will make his third Cup Series start at the track when the green flag drops.

TUNE IN ON SUNDAY: Coverage of Sunday’s 400-mile race in the Irish Hills begins at 2:30 p.m. ET on USA, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
