Story By: RACE OF CHAMPIONS – WILLIAMSON, NY – Andy Lewis, Sr., of Ontario, NY and Jacob Christman of Walnutport, Pa., won both Race of Champions Sportsman Modified Series this past Friday night at Spencer Speedway in Williamson, NY.
Lewis won the held-over feature from Friday, July 12 and Christman captured the regularly scheduled 35-lap feature.
Lewis started second in the first feature and ultimately inherited the lead and went on to hold off defending Series champion Shawn Nye of Lancaster, NY, and Kevin Timmerman of Ontario, NY. It was Lewis’ first Series victory.
“This is big for me and my family,” stated Lewis from victory lane. “I didn’t think we’d get back here. This feels incredible.”
Christman topped a strong running Timmy Lewis of Ontario, NY, and Nye for his third win of the 2024 campaign in his rookie year in the division.
“We’ve been running well and have had a very strong car,” stated Christman from victory lane. “We’re just happy to be able to compete with these guys. This is an incredibly competitive division and we work hard to make it happen. I want to thank my family, my crew and my sponsors for the incredible job they’ve been doing.’
Tommy Barron of Ontario, NY, swept the Race of Champions Super Stock features on Friday. The held over feature from Friday, June 14 saw Barron top Jake Wylie of Derby, NY, who turned in an impressive run and Christman, who ran the most laps of any driver on Friday.
In the second and regularly scheduled feature Barron had to hold off a charging Joe Mancuso of Buffalo, NY, who charged from 12th to 2nd on the outside of the speedway with Barron narrowly claiming the victory. Brian Hallett of Avon, NY, turned in an outstanding performance to come home third.
Gene Purvis of Elmira, NY, made a rare appearance at Spencer and captured the Wilbert’s U-Pull It Four Cylinder feature while Dave Reiber of Ontario, NY scored the track championship in the division. Ashley Schoonmaker of Williamson, NY, won yet another Wilbert’s U-Pull It Super Six Series race and claimed another track championship in the division.
The next race for the Race of Champions “Family of Series” is this Saturday, August 24 at Holland (NY) Speedway with the annual running of the Busch Light 100 presented by Try-It Distributing featuring the George Decker Memorial for the Race of Champions Sportsman Modified and Rick Wylie Classic for the Race of Champions Late Model Series. The Race of Champions Super Stock and Race of Champions FOAR SCORE Dash Series will round out a full racing card.
