Stacy Jackson Takes Third Modified Feature Win Of ’24 At Woodhull Raceway

Story By: KENNY SHUPP / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – After suffering through three rained out events in the past four weeks at the Woodhull Raceway, Mother Nature finally cut the historic Steuben County Raceway some slack as they were finally able to get a show into the books as a trio of heavy weight marketing partners joined forces to sponsor the Saturday, August 24 event including Dgien Trucking, Bradley Supply and the New York State Stock Car Association.

In the Insinger Performance Modified twenty-five lap feature event, a pair of Addison, NY competitors in Joe Dgien and Donnie Lawson would lead the seventeen car field to the opening green with Dgien leading lap one before inside row two starter, Stacy Jackson would take control of the event on lap two and from there go on to his third feature win of the season and with it take over the point lead with just two point paying events left on the season.

Once out in front, Jackson would have to withstand no less than four yellow flag slow downs enroute to his trip to victory lane thus far in 2024 piloting the potent Brad and Kim Herrington owned creation and it backs up his previous victories on May 18 and July 20.

2022 Woodhull Raceway Modified Track Champion, Joe Dgien would put on one of his better efforts of late in claiming the runner-up spot after a season that he would like to forget about, however with the second place run Dgien may now have some momentum heading into the last couple of point shows plus post season play.

Elmira, NY native and second- generation pilot, Jeff Daugherty lost a real heart breaker to Jackson a month ago but was able to recover nicely with a consistent run from his outside row three starting position to round the podium at the completion of the twenty-five-lap grind.

Brady Fultz of Dundee, NY began the event buried deep in the field starting twelfth, but using some nifty moves and the four caution flags to his advantage he was able to advance to fourth at the finish.

Donnie Lawson raced within the lead pack throughout the entire distance and would go on to complete the top five.

Earlier in the evening, the Insinger Performance Modifieds lined up for their traditional King of the Ring one-on-one elimination event with Dgien Trucking of Howard, NY, Bradley Supply of Hornell along with the management of the Woodhull Raceway putting up $800 which went to Brady Fultz who went on the claim his first Woodhull Raceway Modified King of the Ring cape and crown.

In Hometown Excavation 602 Crate Sportsman twenty-five lap feature action, 2022 Track Champion, Isabel Barron and veteran competitor, Tim Guild would bring the nineteen- car field to the opening green with Guild getting the jump early on and cruising to his second win of the season to go along with his first victory on July 20.

Just two yellow flags would slow the action and keep the field bunched up, but Guild was able to hold off all challengers to claim the win with Barron finishing second as she continues to look for her second trip to victory lane after claiming the season opener on April 20.

Kenny Peoples Jr. entered the night with seven wins and a comfortable lead in the point standings over Guild and Barron claimed third at the double checkered flags after starting the event inside row three.

Brandon Morseman lined up fourth on the opening grid and maintained his position throughout the entire distance to claim fourth with Blake Lawson giving chase after beginning the feature in the ninth starting slot.

After winning the 2023 Empire Crushing RUSH Crate Late Model Track Title, Canisteo, NY native Austin Allen made the decision to travel to as many RUSH Sanctioned Touring Events as possible in 2024, however whenever he does return home to the Woodhull Raceway he has not forgotten how to get around the high banked one-third of a mile clay oval.

Beginning the twenty-lap feature inside row two, the Double A Energizer wasted little time disposing of front row starters, Rickie Loucks and Garrett Heffner to assume the top spot which he would never relinquish.

Five-time 2024 feature winner, Brett Marlatt padded his insurmountable point lead with his runner-up finish to fellow Canisteo, NY native Allen as the second- generation driver continues to have a career year since moving into the RUSH CLM Division a few seasons ago after a stellar career in the Street Stock Class.

Multi time Woodhull Raceway Track Champ, Brian Knowles has been shut out of victory lane at Woodhull thus far in 2024, however another consistent drive from last found the Corning native completing the podium as he maintains a solid top five in the current points with just a pair of events remaining on the season.

Campbell, NY’s Rickie Loucks had one of his better finishes of late after starting on the pole and racing within the lead pack throughout the entire distance to take home fourth place money with veteran Boliver competitor, Joe Layfield completing the top five finishers.

Clayton McClean has had what many would consider a career season in the Southern Tier Customs Street Stock Division as the Elkland, Pa driver cruised to win five on the season holding off the classes’ winningest competitor in Glenn Whritenour.

By the luck of the re-draw, McClean and Corning, NY’s Luke Boom would bring the field to green with McClean taking immediate control and never looking back.

However, it was no walk in the park for McClean as Whritenour gave chase throughout the entire distance after beginning the twenty-lap event inside row three.

With a late race caution flag waving with just one lap remaining on lap nineteen, it put the many times Woodhull Raceway Street Stock Champion right on the rear trunk lid of the race leader, but McClean was able to keep GW at bay enroute to the victory.

Following McClean and Whritenour across the line in third was July 27 class feature winner, Dan Gardner who started the event outside row two.

Mike Spencer and 2023 Street Stock Track Champion, Teddy Morseman Jr, would go on to complete the top five after beginning the feature in positions six and third, respectively.

For Sawyer’s RV and Camper Service and Repair Hobby Stock Division it marked the beginning of Round 2 of the North/South Shootout between drivers from both Woodhull and the Bradford Speedways. The finale will be run at Bradford on Sunday, September 1, 2024, where the overall champion will be crowned.

A solid field of fifteen Hobby Stocks would see four-time 2024 feature winner, Brandon Conklin along with Paul Dgien lead the field to the opening green, however it was fifth place starter, Joe Birdsall of Canisteo assuming control early on and lead the charge.

Five yellow flags would slow the pace, but on every restart, Birdsall was able to maintain his advantage over Kaiden Dgien who had worked his way into second after lining up inside row two on the original start and that is how they would finish with Birdsall taking the win and backing up his June fifteenth victory.

Kaiden Dgien, making a rare Woodhull appearance had to settle for the runner-up spot as he was followed in third by Scott Brown who is still looking for win one on the 2024 season.

By virtue of his fourth-place run, Brandon Conklin still maintains a slim point advantage over Brown with just a pair of point shows remaining.

Rounding out the top five was May 25 feature winner, Dale Houghtaling who began the twenty-lap feature mired in starting position twelve.

For the ninth time in 2024, Wes Houghtaling made short work of Big Jim’s Wicked Tee’s Quad C twenty-lap A Main event as he along with his number one nemesis, Danielle Morseman would bring the twelve car to the opening green flag.

However, Houghtaling was just too much to manage as he cruised to the “W” as Craig Decamp would come home second after lining up fourth on the opening grid.

Troupsburg, NY native Nick Brown made a rare Woodhull start beginning the event in third, maintaining his position throughout the entire distance to round the podium finishers.

Like Brown, Nate Freeland was back after several weeks of absence and made his presence know starting the evet in last and working his way into fourth at the finish as he was chased across the line by pole position starter, Danielle Morseman who trails Houghtaling by some twenty markers with the point season coming to a completion in just two weeks.

In the Wicked Tee’s Youth Warrior Division, Markus Kerr would lead all ten laps in claiming his eighth feature win of the season.

July 13 feature winner, Izzabella Morseman would put in a solid effort to nail down the runner-up spot with Courtney Thomas finishing third advancing from fifth at the opening start.

Kolston Decamp, Cadin Thomas and three- time 2024 feature winner, Kayleigh Morseman would complete the six-car field.

Congratulations to all competitors.

Coming up next at Woodhull on August 31, 2024, it will be another Super 7 Show with the Classics on Dirt Vintage Cars making their second appearance of the season.

The night of competition sponsored by Rent a Tent of Mansfield, Pa.

With the point battles at a fever pitch, only two-point shows remain prior to the Season Point Championship Night on Saturday, September 7.
