Story By: DAN KAPUSCINSKI / WEEDSPORT KARTWAY – WEEDSPORT, NY – For the third consecutive year, Jared John ended the 44-lap PRO Clone Super Heavy James Shutts Memorial at the front of the pack, collecting the winner’s share of $1,222.
John started the two-stage event from the pole position after winning the $100 All Out Customs pole award, leading Trent Smith, Mike Farina, Dan Kapuscinski and Nick McGill to the green flag.
From third, Farina would jump to the early lead ahead of John and fellow former Shutts Memorial champions, Kapuscinski and Matt Chavis, who began to mount a charge to the front from eighth on the grid. Unfortunately for Chavis, as soon as he took the third position, the throttle return spring would break on the No. 01, ending his day.
A long green flag run would end the first 22-lap stage with Mike Farina collecting $222 from Dan Kapuscinski Motorsports Promotions as the halfway leader over John, Smith, Mitchell Schreffler, McGill and Kapuscinski finishing in the top six invert positions for the second half of the race.
However, Farina would pull the No. 1 pill, meaning the race would restart straight up according to the lap 22 order.
Once back to green it would be John taking charge in the No. 8, as Farina began to back slide through the field. With John and Smith now leading the way, western New York runner, Mike Seefeldt, was on his way through from the back of the field and eventually stormed to the third position in the late going.
As seen the last two years, nobody would have anything for John in the late going as he would comfortably ride to his third consecutive JSM victory over Smith, Seefeldt, McGill, Schreffler, Kapuscinski, Colin Spatorico, William Young, Jeffrey Lonnen and Teddy Clayton in the top ten.
The day’s other PRO race would again be a battle between Seth Whitney and John in PRO Clone 360. Whitney would prevail this time over John in the late going to collect the $1,000 winner’s prize. Tanner Emmons would finish on the podium ahead of Farina and Jamie Shutts.
Whitney’s PRO win was one of three victories on the day as he would also collect points wins in Clone Heavy and Clone Light.
John and Farina would trailer Whitney in Heavy, while Riley Begy and Emmons trailed in Light.
The Clone Super Heavy points event was claimed by John over Jordan Sullivan and Kapuscinski.
In junior action, the Jr. Red Clone field saw a great field of 12 entries, with Bryson Herriven leading the way over Clark McGruder and Eli Reid.
The Jr. Green points battle stays hot as championship contenders Ryan Barry and Luke Holmes were again at the front with Barry topping Holmes and Mason Sharts.
Levi Herriven continued his domination of Jr. Purple Clone with yet another victory on top of Micheal Hugg and Laina Stewart.
Joey Surman also stayed hot at Weedsport on Sunday, sweeping Jr. Blue Clone and Jr. Unrestricted in his No. 3 machine. Savannah Simmons and Troy Hutton gave chase in Blue, while Logan Brown and Timmy Axton finished on the podium in Unrestricted.
