NASCAR TRACKS – TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY – NASCAR 101

Talladega Superspeedway is already known for delivering high-speed, edge-of-your-seat action action. When you mix in the intensity and pressure of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, it creates the perfect recipe for a thrill-packed afternoon on the towering high banks of the Lincoln, Alabama, track. The 2024 season marks the eighth straight year that the 2.66-mile superspeedway will serve as the host for the fifth race in the playoffs, race No. 31 of the 36-race schedule. Since being added to NASCAR’s premier series postseason in 2004, Talladega remains one of only four tracks to have been a part of the playoff lineup every year, solidifying its status as a pivotal wild card for drivers chasing the title.

  • Austin Cindric, driver, No. 2 Discount Tire Ford Mustang – 2nd
  • Ryan Blaney, driver, No. 12 Menards/Pennzoil Ford Mustang – 5th
  • Joey Logano, driver, No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Mustang – 6th

CINDRIC SAID IT: “It certainly gives us options from a strategy standpoint and it obviously shows we have a really fast Discount Tire Ford Mustang. Once again, Fords are really fast again at these types of racetracks. I’m proud of everyone at Ford Performance and Team Penske – you can see the consistency there with all of our cars being really, really close. Everyone that the shop should be proud of that one. We will have something to race with tomorrow.”

SWEET HOME ALABAMA: Team Penske has amassed 13 total wins at the famed Talladega Superspeedway over the years across the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series, including 11 at the Cup level. Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano each have three wins apiece at the 2.66-mile track. As Sunday’s race approaches, Austin Cindric tops the field in both points earned and laps led on drafting tracks throughout the 2024 season, showcasing the 2022 DAYTONA 500 winner’s skill and precision on these high-speed, pack-racing circuits.

TUNE IN ON SUNDAY: Coverage of Sunday’s YellaWood 500 at Talladega is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. ET on NBC, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
