Matt Tifft Visits HSR Victory Lane in NASCAR Classic at Charlotte’s Roval

Story By: DAN HODGDON / MATT TIFFT RACING – CONCORD, NC – After sweeping the HSR Mitty at Road Atlanta in late April, Matt Tifft returned to victory lane on Saturday night in the Historic Stock Car Racing Association’s inaugural visit to the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course.

Tifft piloted a 2006 NASCAR Cup Series Dodge Charger to the victory in Saturday’s nightcap in the SCB class after opening the night with a strong fourth-place finish.

“It was a lot of fun going back to a NASCAR track and of course getting a win in our class,” Tifft said. “It is a huge step for me to hopefully return to NASCAR competition in the future. I am having a ton of fun right now running all kinds of cars.”

Tifft climbed back behind the wheel of a stock car on Saturday for a pair of Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) NASCAR Classic races at the track better known as the ”Roval.”

During the event featuring 16 historic cars, Tifft’s top-five results came in the class reserved for 1996-2006 Modern Era NASCAR vehicles. His 2006 NASCAR Cup Series Dodge Charger flew his familiar B’laster No. 57 colors in both 30-minute races.

He opened the day with a fourth-place SCB class result, finishing behind John Hunter Nemechek, Justin Marks and Erick Servick on the 17-turn, 2.280-mile circuit in Concord, North Carolina.

In race two, Tifft turned in a strong showing and took the checkered flag first in SCB and fourth overall in the 14-car field, with the top three finishers all competing in the Pro class.

Tifft will sit idle this weekend as the team prepares for a doubleheader in his Dirt Super Late Model at Whynot Motorsports Park next weekend. The 30th annual Coors Light Fall Classic kicks off on Friday with dual $3,000-to-win prelims setting the stage for Saturday’s main event. A record payout of $20,000 will be up for grabs.
