Story By: ASHLEY MCCUBBIN / FLAMBORO SPEEDWAY – HAMILTON, ONT – May 27th is the opening date for the 2023 OSCAAR Hot Rod campaign at Flamboro Speedway. A year ago, the racing world was a buzz about the return of the legendary Bill Zardo Sr returning to competition full time with the familiar #46 Hot Rod.
At 80 years of age, a member of the Canadian Motorsports Hall of fame, winner of 100’s of feature events all over North America, Bill had nothing to prove to anyone. But the fans supported him and came out and cheered him each week, and that special night at Peterborough Speedway where Bill celebrated with family and friends in feature victory lane for the last time is something no one will ever forget.
During the off season, all of racing lost a friend, and a competitor in Bill.
Flamboro Speedway fans and John Casale had the privilege of seeing the famous green and silver #46 do battle week after week with the greats of super late model racing, Hanley, Biederman, Slack, Monaghan.
This memorial event allows John to say Thank you to Bill and his family for the many years of enjoyment the Zardo’s brought to the fans at Flamboro Speedway.
The Hot Rods will be doing a 46-lap feature event and will be competing to have their name to be the first to be engraved on the annual Bill Zardo Memorial trophy.
