Westbrook, Bowman, Beagle & Riley Win Friday Night At Ohsweken Speedway

Story By: BRENT OTCHERE / OHSWEKEN SPEEDWAY – OHSWEKEN, ONT – Strickland’s Presented Bicycle Night on Friday at Ohsweken Speedway; Dylan Westbrook, Mike Bowman, Ryan Beagle, and Alex Riley took A-Main wins.

Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars
Tyler Rand started on pole alongside Aaron Turkey to take the green flag for the 25 lap 360 Sprint Car A-Main. Dylan Westbrook made quick work of the top three, leading the first lap after starting fourth on the grid. Rand brought out the first caution on lap three, coming to a stop after spinning in turn four. The restart became dicey as the mid pack stacked up, resulting in Travis Cunningham being spit out into the infield to bring out the second caution.

The next restart was clean, and saw Westbrook pulling a sizable gap over the rest of the racers. Two more cautions appeared before the halfway point of the race, allowing Mike Bowman to capitalize and contend for the win. Fresh off his second place finish last outing, Bowman chased down Westbrook for the lead. However, Westbrook held him off for the win, picking up his second consecutive victory. Crossing the finish line next were Bowman in second, D.J. Christie third, Josh Hansen fourth, and Liam Martin fifth. Ryan Turner now leads the championship standings over Westbrook by three points.

Oakwood Transport Action Sprint Tour West/Strickland’s Crate Sprint Cars
John Cadman and Tanner Podwinski brought the 24 car field to the green flag for the 25 lap Crate Sprint Car A-Main. Mack DeMan blasted into the front, leading the first lap after starting from the fourth position. Jesse Costa and Brett Stratford both came to a stop separately on the track to bring out the yellow flag. Stratford had to retire from the race after suffering major damage on the first lap, losing valuable points towards his championship efforts. Cautions bred cautions, as Tyler Willard and Johnny Miller collided on the restart. Lap four had yet another caution as Cam MacKinnon came to a stop.

The race finally saw some green flag racing with Mack DeMan was commanding a major lead, encountering traffic by the tenth lap. The final caution came out due to a stopped A.J. Lewis on turn two. DeMan had a great restart along with Mike Bowman and the two showcased an epic race to the end. Bowman took the lead over DeMan with six laps left to go, which turned out to be the winning move. DeMan settled for a second place finish, while Cadman finished in third, Steve Murdock fourth, and Darrell Pelletier rounded out the top five. DeMan now leads the Strickland’s Crate Sprint Car track championship standings over Costa by 67 points.

Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks – “Gale’s Cash Blast 54”
The front row of the grid featured Gofast Teeple and Donny Lampman to begin the $2,000-to-win 54 lap Thunder Stock A-Main sponsored by Gale’s Auto Aftermarket. Teeple’s lead was short lived as Mike Thorne took over by lap two. After two early cautions, Logan Shwedyk became the new leader with a great restart, however Dave Bailey came onto the scene and snatched the lead away on the following lap. Championship contender Ryan Beagle was running in the third position by lap eleven.

Lap 28 and 29 both had cautions which made the final half of the race essentially a sprint to the finish which saw Bailey and Beagle swapping the lead multiple times as the laps ticked down. The final caution of the race came out with just six laps left to go. Beagle held off Bailey to win the race and score valuable points in his pursuit of championship leader Kyle Wert. Ryan Dinning finished third, Wert fourth, and Shwedyk fifth. Kyle Wert now leads the championship standings over Dave Bailey by 21 points.

HRW Automotive Mini Stocks
Tim DeBoer started on pole with Christopher French next to him for the 15 lap Mini Stock A-Main. French led the first lap until Dustin Duga came to a stop and brought out the caution. John Lubeck became the new leader after the restart until French regained the lead on the next lap, just before the next yellow flew for Jason Tolton, Lofton Schuts, and Cierra Keus colliding with each other, while Tristan DaSilva’s right rear wheel fell off.

Polesitter DeBoer regained the lead after the restart. The final caution came out for yet another wheel coming off, this time coming from Wayde Thorne. Championship leader Ryan Hillar fought for the victory in the final laps, but seemingly out of nowhere Alex Riley made a last lap move for the win, edging out DeBoer by just 0.060 seconds. DeBoer finished in second, Hillar third, Jeff Elsliger fourth, and Lubeck fifth. Ryan Hillar now leads the championship standings over Mike Sarantakos by 14 points.

Friday Night Thunder presents Halloween in July on Friday, July 14 featuring the Southern Ontario Sprints, plus the Stickland’s Crate Sprint Cars, Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks, and HRW Automotive Mini Stocks.
