Woodhull Raceway Cancels Racing Events For Saturday, July 29th

Story By: KENNY SHUPP / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – It has been three months since the last time the Woodhull Raceway lost an event to Mother Nature. A statistic that most track owners would envy.

Even though there were a number of close calls during that time along with an event that began two and a half hours late due to an afternoon shower, the track has been able to get eleven consecutive shows into the books with the last washouts coming at the start of the season on April 22 and 29 with both cancellations due to saturated grounds.

However, with late afternoon showers beginning at 3:00 pm followed by a heavy rainstorm at 4:30 pm, Woodhull Raceway owners, Terry and Niki Brewer had no other choice than to throw in the towel on the July 29, 2023 event.

Earlier in the day, the management of the NYPENN IMCA Modified Series had cancelled their trip to Woodhull stating that, “With a 50/50 chance of late day rain coupled with the high cost of travel it isn’t worth the risk, consequently we are rescheduling our trip to the High Banks for August 26, 2023”.

After the late day rain’s, it was a no brainer for the fourth-year owners of the historic Steuben County oval.

“There was standing water everywhere. If it quit raining as soon as we cancelled it would have been several hours at best before we could even think about getting the show rolling.”

The sale of rubber boots would have far exceeded that of any Woodhull apparel items, photos or food and beverages.

The Big Bop Dirty Thirty for the KMD Excavation Hobby Stocks will be re-scheduled at a time to be determined as well as the Vintage Cars which were also on the July 29 card.

Drivers, teams, fans and employees are urged to keep a watchful eye on Facebook for continual updates leading up to the August 5 event as well as any rescheduling of the Big Bop Dirty Thirty and the Vintage Cars.

Next week it will be the Dgien Trucking Modified King of the Bull Ring one-on-one single elimination event in addition to a Regular Great 8 Show with Dgien Trucking and Maple City Collision onboard as the nightly hosts.

It is yet to be determined when Maple City Dodge, who was to have market the July 29 program will return to help sponsor at the track.

Fans are also encouraged to prepare for the Woodhull Raceway’s only mid-week show of the 2023 season coming up on Tuesday, August 8 with the Second Annual Honoring Alice Night featuring a $5,500 to win B and H Logging Modified Special along with the $4,000 to win Empire Crushing, Darwin Davis Memorial for the touring RUSH Crate Late Model Series as well as the $1,000 to win Empire Street Stock 30 lap special.

Pit gate times for both the August 5 and 8, 2023 programs are set for 3:30 with racing at 6:30 pm.

The Main Grandstands opens at 4:30 pm for both dates.

The Woodhull Raceway is located on CR. 102 just a mile off RT. 417 in Woodhull, NY.

25 miles west of Corning, 25 miles east of Hornell, 25 miles south of Bath and 25 miles north of Wellsboro.
