Rick Spencer-Walt Scores Victory In OSCAAR Hot Rod Feature At Peterborough

Story By: ASHLEY MCCUBBIN / OSCAAR – PETERBOROUGH, ONT – Making his second career Knightworks Design OSCAAR Hot Rod start at Peterborough Speedway, Rick Spencer-Walt utilized a late-race restart to take the lead and score the feature victory on Saturday night.

Trevor Thomspon won the first JRS Auctions heat ahead of Steve Book, Rob Bromley, Jamie Carins, John Lavalle, Jeremy McLean, Matt Spry, and Sean Walker.

Rick Spencer-Walt was victorious in the second qualifier in front of Tyler Hawn, Ryan Cowan, Connor Ellis, Bill Clarke, Nick Clarke, and Art Rodgers.

Tyler Hawn won the third heat, followed by Nick Clarke, Spencer-Walt, Cowan, Thompson, Walker, Spry, and McLean.

Steve Book was victorious in the last qualifier ahead of Cairns, Bill Clarke, Lavalle, Ellis, and Bromley.

Starting the race from the eighth position, Rick Spencer-Walt methodically worked his way through the field up to the runner-up spot with just 10 laps on the board. He would begin to try and reel in race leader Tyler Hawn, but was unable to over the next 10 laps. Everything then changed on Lap 20 when Bill Clarke went up in smoke, with Nick Clarke and Matt Spry tangling together off of turn two as they slid in the fluid laid down.

Rick Spencer-Walt got a good restart on the high side, taking the lead and driving away en route to visiting McColl Racing Enterprises victory lane. Tyler Hawn held on for second, with Rob Bromley out-battling Steve Book for third. Ryan Cowan rounded out the top-five, ahead of Trevor Thompson, Jamie Cairns, John Lavalle, Connor Ellis, and Sean Walker.

Art Rodgers was 11th in his season debut, in front of Nick Clarke, Bill Clarke, Matt Spry, and Jeremy McLean. McLean was forced to pull off with just 10 laps on the board due to no brakes.

The next race for the Knightworks Design OSCAAR Hot Rods takes place on Saturday, August 12 at Brighton Speedway.
