Story By: BEN SHELTON / LOGAN ROBERSON RACING – WAYNESBORO, VA – Logan Roberson enjoyed a successful Labor Day weekend of racing in both his Super Late Model and Crate Late Model.
On Friday night he collected his 100th-career victory with an American All-Star Series triumph at Natural Bridge (Va.) Speedway. On Saturday and Sunday, he competed with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) in Ohio and West Virginia, where he notably picked up his first series heat race to earn a front-row starting position for the $30,000-to-win Hillbilly Hundred.
“I can’t say enough about both the weekend we had with both our Crate Late Model and our Super Late Model. We picked up the $5,000 American All-Star win at Natural Bridge (Speedway) on Friday night. From there we raced with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at Portsmouth (Raceway Park) and Tyler County (Speedway) on Saturday and Sunday, and we made both shows,” Roberson said. “Even better I got my first Lucas Oil heat race win at Tyler County Speedway. We started on the front row for the Hillbilly Hundred, which was a dream come true. We ran around the Top 5 until 10 or so laps to go when I get spun. We bounced back to finish 11th. Overall, it was just a dream weekend. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone, who supports us.”
The tripleheader opened on Friday at Natural Bridge (Va.) Raceway with Roberson in his Wynbridge Inc. No. 17 Gunter’s Honey / CVR Race Car Crate Late Model. The $5,000-to-win American All-Star Presented by PPM Racing Products drew 37 entries for the opening round of the Crystal Cup. Logan made a clean sweep of the night with the fastest lap in his qualifying group followed by a dash win, which positioned him on the pole for the feature.
Roberson paced all 50 laps to collect the victory over Josh Dietz, Zach Sise, Henry Hornsby III, and Jeremy Steele.
With a win in his hip pocket, Logan returned to the driver’s seat of the Broadnax Shaker Motorsports No. 89 MasterSbilt / Randy Clary Racing Engine Super Late Model on Saturday and Sunday with a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) doubleheader. On Friday night the River Days Rumble took center stage at Portsmouth (Ohio) Raceway Park, where a $15,000 prize was on the line. Logan finished fourth in his heat race to lock into the 16th-starting spot for the feature.
After missing the setup for the main event, Roberson retired early to save his equipment and was credited with a 24th-place finish.
The weekend drew to a close on Sunday evening with the 55th running of the Hillbilly Hundred, where 34 LOLMDS racer registered for action. Logan hit the ground running with the third-fastest time in his qualifying group, and then stormed to a heat race win, which marked the first of his career with the tour.
Starting second for the 100-lap, $30,000-to-win finale, Roberson ran in the Top-5 for the majority of the feature before being spun late. He rebounded to finish 11th.
