Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / TONY STEWART RACING – BROWNSBURG, IN – Although unable to repeat Gold Cup Race of Champions championship success, Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz put together an impressive effort, not only recording a top ten during his Friday night preliminary outing, but eventually capping the prestigious West Coast program with a seven-spot rally on Saturday night.
Schatz, ace of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, Advance Auto Parts, Carquest, Ford Motor Company, Ford Performance, MadJax XSeries, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Absolute Automation and Security, Hunt Brothers Pizza, Elliott’s Custom Trailers and Carts, No. 15 sprint car, rolled home 13th in Saturday’s 25,000-to-win finale, commencing his forward progress from the outside of row ten; he was fourth in his heat race to qualify.
As noted, the ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion kicked-off his slate at Silver Dollar Speedway with a top-ten performance, finishing ninth after starting in the exact same position. Schatz was third in his respective heat race to qualify for the preliminary main event.
Only two events remain on the 2023 West Coast Swing for the Greatest Show On Dirt, taking the nation’s best open wheelers to Kings Speedway and Placerville Speedway in respective fashion.
As hinted, Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will continue their 2023 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series campaign with two more nights in California. First up is Kings Speedway in Hanford, California, for the $21,000-to-win Tom Tarlton Classic on Friday, September 15. The next night takes the tour to Placerville Speedway in Placerville, California, for the 49er Gold Rush Classic.
