Schatz Saves Best For Last In Huset’s Historic High Bank Nationals; Cedar Lake Double On Deck

Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / TONY STEWART RACING – BROWNSBURG, IN – It was a slower than usual start for Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, but when the dust settled on Saturday night in Brandon, South Dakota, the ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion had his best result of the week, capping Huset’s Speedway’s historic High Bank Nationals with an 11th-place result in the $250,000-to-win finale on Saturday, June 24. The High Bank Nationals final night featured the largest payday in World of Outlaws history.

Schatz, ace of the Advance Auto Parts, Carquest, Ford Motor Company, Ford Performance, MadJax XSeries, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Absolute Automation and Security, Hunt Brothers Pizza, Elliott’s Custom Trailers and Carts, No. 15 sprint car, started 13th on Huset’s Speedway’s High Bank Nationals A-Main grid, utilizing a runner-up finish during his respective High Bank Nationals qualifier to set the evening’s pace.

Prior to the Saturday night finale, Schatz opened High Bank Nationals action with 18th and 16th-place finishes in Thursday and Friday’s $20,000-to-win preliminary events, respectively. Unfortunately, Schatz was unable to qualify for Wednesday’s preliminary A-Main; he was scored 17th in the Last Chance Showdown.

Despite a lackluster week in the Mt. Rushmore State, Schatz is already looking ahead, ready to tackle The Badger State in a Cedar Lake Speedway holiday doubleheader this Friday and Saturday.

Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will continue their 2023 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series campaign with the annual Independence Day Spectacular at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin, on Friday and Saturday, June 30-July 1.
