Story By: RYAN DELPH / KINZER MOTORSPORTS – ALLEN, KY – For the first time since the completion of the ‘DIRTcar Nationals’ at Volusia (FL) Speedway Park back in February, the Kinzer Motorsports team took to the racetrack again on April 6-7 in the annual running of the ‘Spring Thaw’ at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee.
The ONUM tour presided over the open wheel action, which was on the undercard for the XR Super Series. On Saturday evening in the $2,000 to win opener, Brandon Kinzer placed fourth in his heat race and later climbed to as high as third in the running order in the 25-lap feature. A skirmish late in the race knocked him back a few spots, but BK was still able to cross underneath the checkers in the fifth position behind only victor Blake Brown, Colton Proffit, Joe Duvall, and Adam Ogle.
At “The Gap” on Sunday, another $2,000 top prize was up for grabs in the weekend finale. Brandon once again finished fourth in his stacked heat race and later started the 25-lapper from the inside of the fourth row. The Kentucky-turned-Florida native wound up finishing right where he took the green flag…in the seventh spot.
The #18 team now plans to take the next couple of weekends off before invading the hallowed high-banks of Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio on Saturday, April 27. The rain-postponed ‘Dirt Track World Championship’ from last October will bring Open Wheel Modifieds from across the country to the cornfields of west-central Ohio. A $10,000 payday will be on the line at the “Big E” for the open wheel warriors.
