Weather Forces Cancellation Of $5K-To-Win Commonwealth Clash At Virginia Motor Speedway

Story By: DAVE SEAY / VIRGINIA MOTOR SPEEDWAY – JAMAICA, VA – With rain overnight into the morning, and the chance of rain later in the afternoon, management of Virginia Motor Speedway has made the difficult decision to cancel the $5000 to win FASTRAK Racing Series sanctioned Commonwealth Clash.

“The decision to cancel a race is the hardest thing we have to do as a promoter. But Mother Nature has forced a decision as we have too many drivers and fans coming from long distances. We don’t want to cause them any unnecessary costs for fuel and hotel rooms”, commented Virginia Motor owner Bill Sawyer.

The speedway will take Mother’s Day weekend off and return on Saturday, May 18th to host the 13th Annual Mud Mayhem Mud Bog presented by Breezeline and WhosYourDriver.org. The event will feature the Premier Mega Truck Racing Series in head-to-head mega truck racing on a short course. Also see the Super Stock, Pro Stock, Modified, and Pro Mod division competing in the 200’ Hill-n-hole pit. Gates open at 9 AM with the mud bog beginning at noon. This is going to be a mega event you do not want to miss. Adults just $25, students (7-17) are $15, and kids 6 and under are free.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a ½ mile dirt oval track located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA, and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA, in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland, and the Hampton Roads area.
