Annual Running Of George Williams Memorial Set For May 25th At Woodhull Raceway

Story By: KENNY SHUPP / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – The Woodhull Raceway has been and always will be about tradition. One of the many extraordinary events that occurs annually at the historic Steuben County Oval is the George Williams Memorial this year scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024

Named in honor of Woodhull’s founding father, George Williams along with his two sons, Jim and Bob designed and built the speedway on their family-owned farmland in one of the most beautiful locations in the Southern Tier of New York. At the age of sixty-five, when most people were nearing retirement, “Old George” as many called him was just getting started as the high banked one third of a mile was carved out. Featuring its paperclip design with long straightaways and tight corners, the unique configuration has more than one driver scratching their head. Many of northeast’s top pilots have at one time or another tried to tame the high banks with many making the comment, “If you can figure out Woodhull, you can race anywhere.”

Now under the ownership of Terry and Niki Brewer, the Woodhull Raceway George Williams Memorial will continue to be one of the must-see races at the facility. Historically, the event is run prior to the Memorial Day Weekend and 2024 will be no exception and in keeping with tradition The George Williams Memorial helps kick off camping season and other outdoor activities across the Twin Tiers of NY and Pa.

A long-standing George Williams Memorial sponsor will return to the high banked one-third of a mile clay oval. The Elkland Moose of Elkland, Pa. will once again team up to co-sponsor the event with a pair of fresh marketing partners in Ken’s Auto Collision and Hubertus Service Center, both of Canisteo.

The Elkland Moose has a long standing at this facility and their involvement runs deep and the Brewers are pleased to have them return in 2024. This is a great world-wide fraternal organization that does a lot for our local communities.

Mooseheart, located near Chicago, is a 1000-acre retread for young children and teens in need. The Elkland Moose cares about the next generation and is a proud supporter of Mooseheart.
