Woodhull Raceway Welcomes NY Penn IMCA Modifieds Plus Vintage Cars July 29th

Story By: KENNY SHUPP / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – Maple City Dodge of Hornell will present a Regular Great 8 Show plus the return of the NYPENN IMCA Modifieds to the Woodhull Raceway as the curtain is pulled down on the month of July on the 29th.

Woodhull owners and promoters, Terry and Niki Brewer will be providing an action- packed night of racing as all of Woodhull’s weekly divisions will be in action including the Insinger Performance Modifieds, the NAPA Crate Sportsman, the Doug Gross Construction RUSH Crate Late Models and the Southern Tier Customs Street Stocks.

Also, on the card it is a trio of Big Jim’s Wicked Tee’s sponsored classes in the Mini Stocks, Front Wheel Drives and Youth Warriors.

In addition, the KMD Hobby Stocks will compete in the Third Annual Big Bop Dirty Thirty named in Memory of Billy Joe Birdsall who lost his life to Covid.

If that is not enough, the NYPENN IMCA Modifieds will make their second and final appearance at Woodhull in 2023.

And we are still not done as the Vintage Cars will wrap up the aggressive night of action on the high banked one-third of a mile clay oval.

All this for the low, low General Admission ticket price of just $14.00.

“We scheduled the IMCA Modifieds twice this season as they had not raced at Woodhull in several years. The Big Bop Dirty Thirty has turned out to be a real big special event for the Hobby Stocks and the Vintage Cars always go over well at the track. Due to scheduling constraints all three lined up on the same night so it is going to be an action- packed show for our fans.” That according to the Brewer’s.

Jake Maynard and his team of the NYPENN IMCA Modified Division have worked extremely hard rebuilding the IMCA Mod’s in the Northeast. The July 29 event at Woodhull pays a nifty $1,000 to the winner plus it is an All-Star Performance All Star Challenge Event. Fans will see many of the regions top IMCA drivers converge on the Woodhull Raceway for this show.

The Birsdall family of Canisteo, NY suffered through the loss of Billy Joe in 2021 when Covid ran roughshod across this area. They immediately went to work preparing for the first Big Bop Dirty Thirty which was run late in the season at Woodhull. A huge turnout of cars attended the high dollar event which included piles of lap money. Land of Legends Speedway regular competitor, Frank “Bubba” Burnell won the inaugural outing and in 2023 it was Track Champion, Jeredd Dennis taking the victory before the hometown crowd.

Billy Joe Birsdall was a top runner in the Front Wheel Drive Division, however with his son, Joe competing in the KMD Excavation Hobby Stock Class it made perfect sense to put the effort into this extremely popular up and coming division which generally draws the most cars every week at the track.

Pit gates for the July 29, 2023 show open at 3:30 pm with Grandstand seating to follow at 4:30 pm.

As the days draw closer to the event, postings will be put on Facebook including all late breaking news, any weather-related issues along with the nightly order of events.

It has been several years since Maple City Dodge of Hornell, NY last sponsored a show at the Woodhull Raceway, however company President, Gary Harwood and his staff are thrilled to be making a return to the historic Steuben County Speedway.

Fans may recall that Maple City Dodge founder, Bill Burch played a significant role in the career of the late Ron Baker as it was Burch and Maple City Dodge that put together a potent MOPAR powered Late Model that Baker piloted to many feature wins at Woodhull in the 1970’s.

“We are extremely pleased to have Gary Harwood and his team returning to Woodhull as a nightly sponsor. Maple City Dodge is one of this region’s largest dealers of new Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram cars and trucks as well as quality used vehicles.” That once again according to Terry and Niki Brewer of the Woodhull Raceway,

Maple City Dodge is still located at their original site on Seneca Road in North Hornell.
