Story By: DINO OBERTO / EVERGREEN RACEWAY – BUTLER TOWNSHIP, PA – Evergreen Raceway will return to action on Sunday afternoon, June 9, with a full slate of racing that will include the 602 Crate Modifieds, Harry’s U-Pull-It Street Stocks, Himmer Graphics Four Cylinders plus the ATQMRA TQ Midgets and the INEX Legends.
Coming off an exciting Opening Night victory with the 602 Crate Modifieds, winner Brian Rygielski heads the way with the division with close-behind Steve Shultz and Micah Adams.
And, if that feature is any indication of the next race to come then fans will most certainly be in for another thrilling outcome.
Likewise with the Street Stocks where Gordie Buchman Jr., eked out a career first win over two-time and defending champion Mike Pollack. This duo had a barnburner of a battle going until Mother Nature stepped in with rain and ended the event short and with Buchman in Victory Lane.
The Four Cylinders showed on Opening Night that it will be another tightly packed group of racers who will face off this year. Johnny Bennett may have taken the checkers but his teammates, Larry Spencer III and Rebecca Barbush were right on his tail as well as Jared Frye.
And it’s not just those aforementioned but any likely starter with this class has the capability of driving to victory.
The American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association can trace their roots back to 1956, and the tradition rich racing organization has been coming to Evergreen Raceway starting in 1988 with legendary Noki Fornoro Jr., taking the very first win here.
Sunday will be the only appearance by the ATQMRA at Evergreen and the winged TQ’s are always a show stopper with lightning fast speeds and wheel-to-wheel action.
Likewise the Legends cars have also played a significant role at Evergreen. When Lad Manning won the very first Legends car feature here 31 years ago it marked the first time the class raced in Pennsylvania, running then under the KLASCAR banner.
Pit gates will open at 10:30 am and grandstands at noon. Pit admission is $40 while at the main gates it is $12 adult admission. Kids 12 and under are free. Practice starts at 12:30 pm and heats get underway beginning at 2:00 pm.
Evergreen will have a two-day weekend of racing on June 15 and 16. On Saturday night there will be a Gut-N-Go Enduro under the lights along with the JuiceBox Division. Race time is 7:00 pm.
On Sunday afternoon, June 16, it will be the first race of the season for the DW Machine & Fabricating Late Models who will be joined by the Harry’s U-Pull-It Street Stocks, Himmer Graphics Four Cylinders, McNulty Funeral Home Novice’s and the Rotten and Forgotten.
