Gemmell Leads Flag-To-Flag in London Recreational 100 at Flamboro Speedway

Story By: ASHLEY MCCUBBIN / FLAMBORO SPEEDWAY – MILLGROVE, ONT – No matter how many things change, other things stay the same – and that was the case with Shae Gemmell on Saturday night as he won the APC Auto Parts United Late Models Series London Recreational Racing 100 at Flamboro Speedway.

A past Grisdale Triple Crown Champion, Gemmell took full advantage of starting on the pole for the 100-lap event, which was broadcast live on Racing America worldwide. He did not let up once he had the No. 3 Late Model out front, pacing all the laps en route to the checkered flag.

Past track champion Kyle Steckly continued running up front with a runner-up ahead of Jake Sheridan, Josh Stade, and Ray Morneau. Blair Wickett, who cut his teeth at Flamboro in a Mini Stock, ranked sixth at the checkered in front of Connor Pritiko, Jo Lawrence, Cole Quinton, and Junior Farrelly.

Tyler Di Venanzo ran inside the top-10 until 16 laps to go, fading back to 11th, followed by Taylor Holdaway, Shawn Chenoweth, Glenn Styres, Rick Burbridge, and Kody Ferri.

The Dayco Super Stocks were also on-hand, with Lane Zardo taking the lead on Lap 13, pacing the remaining of the feature en rotue to the victory. Ryan Dyson ranked second ahead of Carson Nagy, who was in Coltin Everingham’s car after blowing the motor in his during practice. Brody Rickwood and Dennis Cybalski completed the top-five.

Flamboro Speedway regular Justin Collison was sixth in front of Roy Wilkie, Connor Maltese, Shawn Chenoweth, and Jay Doerr. Steve Cashmore’s return behind the wheel saw him place 11th.

Ricky Willigar took the lead with three laps to go to win the first Grindstone Landscaping Canadian Vintage Modified feature ahead of Rodney Rutherford, Jeremy Riopelle, Jae Pepin and Wayde Thorne. Series front runner TJ Marshall placed sixth in front of Scott Tonelli, Steve Murdoch, Mike Westwood, and Daryl Henwood.

Mike Podd started up front, falling to the back early and fighting back to 11th, followed by Samantha Trewolla, Quinton Murdoch, Ian MacIntyre, Maddux Pepin, Mike Klotz, and Sandy Murdoch.

TJ Marshall led flag-to-flag in the second feature ahead of Ricky Willigar, Jeremy Riopelle, Mike Westwood, and Rodney Rutherford. Mike Podd rebounded for a sixth in front of Scot Tonelli, Jae Pepin, Wayde Thorne, and Steve Murdoch.

Maddux Pepin’s rookie campaign continued with an 11th, followed by Samantha Trewolla, Mike Klotz, Quinton Murdoch, Daryl Henwood, and Sandy Murdoch.

The next stock car racing event at Flamboro Speedway is taking place on Saturday, July 20, featuring the Pro Late Models, Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Southern Ontario Modified Association (SOMA).
