Story By: KENNY SHUPP / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – The Woodhull Raceway will host a rare mid-week special event on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, with the Third Annual running of the Honoring Alice Night.
Named in memory of Alice Williams, the First Lady of the Woodhull Raceway, owner/promoter, Nikki Brewer is pleased to announce that the same three divisions that competed in 2023 will return to action in 2024.
The Inaugural Honoring Alice event in 2022 saw Billy VanPelt hold off a late race rally by Joe Dgien to claim the fifty lap event and the popular Westfield, Pa pilot got out of his machine and immediately announced his retirement from driving.
Last season, Ajay Potrzebowski Sr. picked up the huge $5,500 winners check by holding off Erick Rudolph to claim the Modified porting of the card.
Jeremy Wonderling came away with the RUSH Crate Late Model Touring Series Event while Glenn Whritenour was able to hold off Dylan Cecce and Shane Wolfe to claim the Empire Street Stock $1,000 to win, 30 lap feature event.
This year’s event format will mirror that of 2023 as the classes will remain the same.
Insinger Modifieds will race for a winner’s take of $5,500, RUSH Crate Late Models will go off for $4,000 to win and the Empire Street Stock Touring group will find the winner taking home $1,000.
Gate times for the August 6, show will find the pits opening at 4:00 pm with the main grandstand seating to follow at 4:30 pm.

Company owners, Brad and Kim Herrington have been huge supporters of the Woodhull Raceway for decades as both car owners and sponsors of the track.
A who’s who list of top-notch drivers have buckled the belts in their potent Modifieds over the years and currently they have a trio of drivers including Stacy Jackson, Jake Dgien and Brandon Martin with the latter running an abbreviated schedule.
Between them, Jackson (2) and Dgien (1) have a total of three Woodhull victories thus far in 2024 and they will both be gunning for the Honoring Alice $5,500 to win pay day.

With the event being a point paying RUSH Crate Late Model Touring Series event, it is a sure bet that most of the top drivers that follow the series will find their way to Woodhull all looking for the $4,000 to win Darwin Davis Memorial named in memory of one of the tracks favorites who lost his life several years ago in a motor related accident.
Former series champion, Bryce Davis of nearby Canisteo who cut his teeth at Woodhull will return along with brothers Jeremy and Mike Wonderling of Scio, NY.
2023 Woodhull Crate Late Model Track Champion, Austin Allen has been traveling to many series events thus far in 2024 with a great deal of success and he will be back at Woodhull along with several track regulars including Brett Marlatt who has already picked up five feature events this season.
Allen did make a stop at Woodhull on June 15, 2024, and came away with the victory.
Other top Woodhull drivers in the brothers Jason and Brian Knowles along with Steve LeBarron of Troupsburg, NY will all be loaded for bear as will the most recent feature winner, Kurt Stebbins of Wellsville.
Modified standout competitor, Demetrios Drellos of Queensbury, NY will most likely make the four-hour haul to Woodhull to do battle with his Late Model. Earlier in the season, Drellos came to a regular Saturday night show at the historic Steuben County Oval and was very impressive to say the least.
Series organizer Mike Welch has done a masterful job in putting the Empire Street Stock Touring Series together.
Most recent winner, Jimmy Grant at the Land of Legend Speedway in Canandaigua will lead the charge of an impressive list of Street Stock competitors heading to Woodhull for the August 6 event, however several track regulars like Teddy Morseman Jr., Clayton Mclean, Mike Spencer, Dan Gardner and Glenn Whritenour have all visited victory lane in 2024 and all will be looking to walk away with the $1,000 payday.
It is also anticipated that both Cecce and Wolfe will be back at Woodhull to better their finishing spots from last season as the pair gave Whritenour about all he could manage in the feature event.
The Modified field is wide open for the Honoring Alice Special as track regulars like Brady Fultz, Stacy Jackson, Russ Morseman, Jake Dgien, Dayton Brewer, Josh Keesey, Ajay Potrzebowski Jr. and Joe Dgien have all won feature events in 2024 and all will be looking to defend their home turf against invaders like Erick Rudolph of Ransomville who finished in the runner-up spot in last year’s 55 lap affair.
It is yet to be seen of other outsiders like Ron Cartwright Jr., Danny Creeden and Tyler VanDoren will make a return engagement to Woodhull for the Honoring Alice Event after impressive showings in 2023.
The Modifieds will use an opening event draw to determine qualifying heat races followed by a re-draw to set the feature field.
American Racer Tires for the Modifieds are strictly enforced, however there is no compound rule in effect.
The Modifieds, RUSH Crate Late Models and Street Stocks which race at Woodhull on a regular basis will all receive show up points for attending the August 6, 2024, Honoring Alice Event.
